I am so sorry for your loss! Because of allergies we always had short haired dachshunds. My wife and I have lost 4 of them during our time together. The last one caused the most pain and sadness for us... We were still mourning her death 2 years later when a cat started showing up on our porch and my wife befriended it.

I have always been more allergic to cats than dogs so we were trying to find a home for it. But it turned out that this cat is a Siberian, and they have less of the allergens that cause problems for people such as me. So, the cat moved inside with us and doesn’t cause a lot of trouble.

Neither of us had been around cats since we were kids. Teddy was scrawny when we first saw him but because he was more of a kitten, he kept getting bigger and bigger. He now weighs about 18 pounds. I was concerned that he might be getting fat, but the vet says he is just a really large cat.

He acts more like a dog than most other cats and likes to play hockey with milk jug caps. He loves to be the center of attention at family get togethers. It really eased our pain when Teddy came into our lives.

I understand they’re a wonderful breed, but dog lovers who lose such a pet may consider a small breed dog next time, as they can live up to 20+ years. Of course, it still hurts when they’re gone; we recently lost our 18 year old Shi Tzu. A wonderful little dog who we should have put down several months ago, but we just didn’t want to face up to it.

Hang in there. I have been in the same situation many times over My 65 years and it’s never easy but what helps Me through this situation is that Your beloved friend is not hurting anymore and in a better place than We are. Check out My FRHomepage.

I can also share that many times I am pretty sure that They “come back” in the future based on the behavior of others that come into Your life afterwards.

Prayers for You and Kacie.🙏🙏🙏❤️🐾

When my 10-year-old Pug was diagnosed with cancer, I read a book about dog cancer and tried all the suggestions, but unfortunately it spread into her spine and she was quickly going paralyzed.

One of the chapters really stuck with me. He said to tell the dog their story. Tell them about the first time you saw them, how they came into your life. Tell them everything about their life story and how important they have been to you. I did this on the living room floor sitting next to my girl who was in so much pain, and it was such a gift to see her facial expressions. She understood every word and there was even a moment where I swear, a look crossed her face that said, “Oh yeah! I had forgotten about that!” I felt so grateful to have the opportunity to say goodbye to her that way.

Sit on the floor. Try to have her head in your lap when they give her the first shot.
Keep smiling and talk in a soothing way so she isn’t afraid.
That’s a tough thing to do.

Prayers for you, Kacie was lucky to have you. Multiple times with various animals and it’s never easy, but watching them when at the point they’re in pain is worse. My experiences having to take them was I just pet their head as they peacefully drifted off while the vet gave a few shots. We have a spot in the yard for them at home. Hope you keep remembering all the good times.

Been through that - it’s rough....the last decision you want to make.

9 years later...we just got a German Sheppard puppy! They’re a blessing and part of the family...already.

I’ve always believed the caring, unselfish love freely given to a dog by a good person (like you) is an example of the best of the human race.

The love also means we are hurt when we lose that dog. It made us vulnerable. No way around that.

God bless you.

Kacie will be running in vast fields in the sunshine, and will always know how much you love her. I am so sorry.

So sorry for your predicament. The pure love of a dear pet is only on loan to us from God. May He comfort you and ease her way.

I feel so bad for you and Kacie. Severing a loving relationship between an owner and a beloved pet is always hard. I've lost several cats over the years and I could never go to work the next day. My eyes were too swollen to see.

I imagine Kacie has some terminal and painful condition and you just can't watch her suffer any more. So you are going to relieve her pain and suffering. Hopefully, you will shelter her in your arms as she passes, to reassure her. Bless you for caring enough for her to ease her way out of this world gently, and I hope you can work through your grief. It will take a good while, but there's no remedy to hasten grieving. Perhaps in the future, you will honor your dog's memory by adopting a pup in need of a good home. My heart goes out to you.

I fully understand. I’ve worried about losing my hound since she was 3. We bought her a chihuahua when she was 6 as a daughter friend. Since divorced and Abbey my hound and I have traveled the country 2x together camping for 4. & 6 months. She lost her sight to glaucoma. When she lost her second eye at 10 I was devastated but in a day or two I realized how capable she was despite blindness. I begged God for more time. She just turned 13 and is healthy and happy. Knowing her time draws near, I spoil her as much as I can and walk her often. She’s very popular and loves meeting people.

I will be so miserable when she “goes off to college “

You aren’t alone mate. Worst experiences in my 84 years. Big, strong, strapping man bawling like a baby. I’m working with my sick 12 year old pug as we speak and it’s nip and tuck. Have to reach deep within. No words can suffice. Godspeed you and best friend. Amen.

I have had to put down horses, dogs, & cats. When I had to put down the horse I had for 20 years, the vets sent me a sympathy card with the following quote in it:

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan. The life of a horse, often half our own, seems endless until one day. That day has come and gone for me, and I am once again within a somewhat smaller circle." - Irving Townsend "The Once Again Prince"

This has helped me not only with my horse, but the dogs & cats, too. We choose these wonderful animals to be in our lives, even though we know their lives are shorter than ours & we usually make that choice more than once, despite the pain when we have to say goodbye.

You've made a difficult, unselfish choice - to put Kacie's welfare above your desire to keep her as long as you can - she's a fortunate dog. Personally, I stayed with all my animals - the vets were compassionate. The last thing my animals knew was I was there, stroking their heads & telling them they were a 'good dog' or cat. Passing is peaceful - it helped me to know I was there for them all the way to the end. Some cannot stay - it's a very personal choice. My heart is with you.

Hugs to you.

The 20th time isn’t any easier, either.
How could it possibly be?
They are our babies, our friends, our protectors ...
Dogs are the best angels God ever sent to earth.

Hold her and tell her all the good the things she’s done.
My heart hurts for you.
