I'll be sending my almost 13y/o black lab to her final resting place tomorrow.
Based on her health issues of late, I cannot watch her suffer anymore.
I'm a grown man and am crying as I type this. They say it's easier the 2nd time....no it's not. The first time was just as heart wrenching.
I love you Kacie.
Another suggestion: I’ve found that having another pet eases the pain somewhat. If you don’t have another one, consider getting a puppy.
Have sent a prayer. Have had to make that decision more than once.
I am with Will. I miss all my dogs and would prefer to spend eternity with them.
Time heals.
It usually takes a hell of a long time.
Sincere condolences. My cat is getting near her time, and I hate the thought. Prayers for you.
Bless you for taking such good care of that Good Girl.
So very sorry Kevin. I’ve been there many times myself and it never gets easier. It sounds like you gave Kacie a long, wonderful life filled with lots of love. I hope you can take some solace in that? Prayers all the wonderful memories you shared with Kacie will help fill that hole in your heart and one day make you smile again as you think back on those times. Knowing when its time to let them go is probably the hardest thing we have to do, but it is done out of love. Praying Kacie has an easy crossing....Hugs, from one dog lover to another.
This thread is choking me up. Hang in there, my friend!
I refuse to let them die alone on a cold table in a vet's office. We had the whole family gathered around one girl, saying goodbye and hugging her in our backyard, the vet euthanized her there.
Our last dog died in my wife's arms as we called the vet to arrange things. No better way to go, and my wife was so glad she died in her home in loving arms. It's hard, yes, but we owe that to them.
Dogs are so tough to lose. Sorry about your loss.
Labs are the best. I lost my Lucy at 14. It was hard but I found comfort in the end viewing people’s tributes to their dogs, and posting my own. Maybe that would help. Here’s Lucy’s

I’m so sorry for your loss, Kevin. God bless.
Great advice. I wish someone had told me that for my previous dog. I will definitely follow it in a few years for our current dog.
I will drink to you and your good girl Kacie. Last week was the one year anniversary of sending my deeply loved cat Dot on her journey to pet heaven.
There is no better friend than a man’s dog
I have lost several over the years - they each have taught me much
😭
It never gets easier.
Our family has been blessed with many permanent furbabies, 8 of which have passed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Each time it happened I watched my beloved husband lose a bit of his heart.
Know that you were loved.
So sorry. Done it too many times. Can’t do it anymore. Mrs rktman wants one but I just can’t. Hope you do well. 😥
I think it is different for different people. When I held my kitty in my arms and she passed, it was like a hammer to the temple for me. It took me weeks to deal with the shock.
Saying goodbye and leaving them off works much better for me, and they don’t know any different.
I respect your choice, and I hope you respect mine.
You gave her the best life should could live. I’m sorry for your pain - but you were a blessing for her.
