Harsh weather moved west on Monday as a polar vortex was expected to grip the Rockies and the northern Plains after winter storms pummeled the eastern U.S. over the weekend, killing at least 10 people, including nine victims in Kentucky who died during flooding from heavy rains.

The National Weather Service warned of “life-threatening cold” into Tuesday, with temperatures in northeastern Montana predicted to dip as low as 45 degrees below zero (-42.7 degrees Celsius) with wind chills down to 60 below (-51 degrees Celsius).

Meteorologists said several states would experience the 10th and coldest polar vortex event this season. Weather forces in the Arctic are combining to push the chilly air that usually stays near the North Pole into the U.S. and Europe.

Here in Minot ND. -28 when I woke up.

Rough, but it happens a couple times a winter. And it’s been worse.

I saw the forcast Saturday so loaded up at the grocery store so I don’t have to go anywhere and will be making beef stew and some fresh bread for dinner. We’re set.

The range of electric vehicles at -13 degrees is probably about one hundred yards.

Lol.

I believe the “several dead” was the flash flooding from getting 5” of rain in KY & TN.
The same storm that produced the 4-10” of snow we had here in New England.

The deaths almost always happen when someone tries to drive through flood waters in their car and is swept away.

There is also always some big fat guy who has not gotten any exercise in 40 years who dies of a heart attack when shoveling show.

It is like when we get an ice storm and lose power. There will be people who kill themselves with carbon monoxide fumes every time. The SAD thing is when they kill their kids too.

Power outages also result in Darwin Awards for people who burn their house down too.

Do people get a Darwin Award for when their EV catches their house on fire and kill themselves too?

Harsh weather moving west?

Well, regardless of where it came from, the temp was either -7 or -9 F here this morning (depending on who you believe), and the forecast for tomorrow morning is -15. Since their temp predictions have been consistently off this year, I expect -19.

Cold enough, at any rate.

Didn’t Al Gore promise boiling oceans would soon be the norm and snow unknown? Of course the Climate Change Cult will use clever sophistry to explain why warmer global temperatures mean colder winters.

+8 to -9 on Wednesday here in The Ozarks.

Not a bad winter so far.

Thoughts and prayers with all impacted by severe weather - especially those who must work in it.

Kind of like a “BOMB CYCLONE” is the new name they came up with for a “Noreaster”.

The range of electric vehicles at -13 degrees is probably about one hundred yards.

If you can plug it in and precondition the battery before driving you should be able to get 200 yards. :~)

Don’t worry folks. A started up the SUV and let it idle in the driveway for 30 minutes. That should raise the global temps up to a comfortable range.

Here in Phoenix I’m still not over last summer’s row of 115 degree days. I hope this polar vortex aka Febuary winter weather stays late in the season.
