The article includes the hospital’s rationale for denying the heart transplant. Basically, anyone who has a heart transplant will be immunocompromised for the rest of their life and they believe the vaccine is necessary to ensure that the patient remains healthy after the transplant.
This guy might not agree that the vaccine is efficacious. But the hospital does and I think he’s foolish for rejecting it given the totality of his situation.
Also, his wife said that he was going to be signed up for “the next heart” that became available. This doesn’t sound right to me. I was visiting a friend yesterday who is in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant. I listened to the nurse explain that a heart had to be matched to the patient. In other words, a 6’5” man weighing 250 lb would not be a suitable match for a heart from a 20-year-old 90 lb woman. At least that’s the example she gave.
Thanks for reading the arcticle for me! (How embarrassing!). And yeah, thinking about it a bit, I think I’d agree.
