Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston has announced a legislative proposal to incorporate 33 Illinois counties that have expressed a desire to secede from their state.
This initiative comes after these counties, frustrated with the political dominance of Chicago and Cook County, voted in favor of exploring separation.

Madison County (metro St. Louis) is a former Democrat stronghold that has supported Republicans for president since 2012 and for governor for a couple of elections before that. In believe the county board is all Republican. Trump helped to reopen a steel mill in Granite City during his first term, which was a big deal for the economy in this old heavy industry area. I don’t know if they will be successful in leaving Illinois, but I like seeing red Illinois standing up for itself in other ways.
And I believe some southern tier NY counties, who have no voice in how they are governed, would love to become northern tier PA counties!
As much as I would love to see this happen, it has to be pretty much impossible, right?
Which Marion County? Indianapolis is the seat of the one in Indiana, while Salem is the county seat of the one in Illinois (I’ve been to both).
I do hope they pull it off. Here in Oregon we have the same initiative. Several east Oregon counties want to become part of Idaho.
Both Illinois and the federal congress would have to agree. I think there are three chances of this happening: fat, slim and none.
If this succeeds there will be more states realigned. Most of western Minnesota would join the Dakotas

Illinois has turned to crap under democraps. They are one of the states that has the highest percentage loss of population leaving to other states, like CA and NY.
All for it as Illinois will never be any good!
I have a daughter and grandkids in Lake County and a son and dil in DuPage County. Unfortunately, neither of those counties want to secede. :(
Gonna guess he means IL, but I had the same question.
When the majority of Illinois folks would vote for it to happen, it could happen. Getting fedgov to do it, well, there wouldn’t be any better atmosphere for that to happen, than these next 4 years.
You can blame Kelly Loeffler for that fiasco.
if a national Peaceful divorce is impossible, a realignment of states on a county level may be the best solution.
Do it. Cut Illinois Representation. Please.
