One of the greatest things about music is that it can be recorded and enjoyed at any time. This allows us to enjoy music made by people who are sadly no longer with us.
There have been countless outstanding drummers since the beginning of popular music history, many of whom have passed away. Their legacy lives on through their songs, albums, live performances, and of course, the stories about them.

It's saturday, discuss.
Neil Peart- The Professor. One of the best.
Ginger Baker. A jazz drummer in a rock band.
+1
I didn’t even know they were sick.
A bit of a grouch but a great drummer.
Spinal Tap lost more than its share.
Only 21? There are so many more. One I liked is Mike Botts. He toured with Linda Ronsdat and was the main drummer for Bread. He also sang and had a great voice.
“The #1 and 2 were, John Bonham and Keith Moon who died at age 32”
Booze killed them both, Bonham, literally with about 40 shots of Vodka resulting in inhalation of vomit (like Jimi although he was wired on sleeping pills) Moon OD’d on medicine that was supposedly helping him kick booze as he was a raging alcoholic.
Ringo lives on!
I grew up listening to RUSH and they always amazed in a way the Beatles and other great bands did: they were so much more than the sum of their parts.
I didn’t like everything about Neil but can agree he was a virtuoso as a drummer.
I saw him at the Garden in N.Y. for the Cream reunion. Just amazing. One of the first to use double bass. R.I.P. Ginger.
We’ve only just begun, because where’s Karen Carpenter?
(On top of the world.)
A week ago i was at the special premiere of “Becoming Led Zeppelin”- it was beyond amazing.
Several things stood out to me including 1) how soft spoken John Henry Bonham was despite being one of the most powerful drummers of all time 2) watching Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones listen to a never heard before interview by Bonzo for the first time.
Keith Moon was very good, but he was just out of control. Townsend would throw things at him because if he didn’t play something for a while, he would forget the beats. He didn’t use his top hat either. Bonham was just amazing.
Alan White of Yes, who died just a few years ago, should be on this list.
I don't understand this list. They are mostly popular music drummers, but they include some jazz drummers, but only a few.
