I think of the opening scene in "My Man Godfrey" (available free on line, and worth the time) where the matron of the Estate explains to newly arrived Godfrey why he has been brought to a fancy ball as the object of a scavenger hunt.

It's just the honor of winning. The money goes to charity. That is, if there's any money left over, and there never is.

I have thought what he wrote for years..but did not think it went that deep into our government. I had thought the grifting really got obvious under the Clintons...they just enlarged and perfected it...now the grift is de rigueur..But Kunstler did an excellent analysis. Bookmarking it.

Kunstler is one of best wordsmiths around.

He’s also a disgruntled democrat who is fed up with his parties corruption and behavior in the Trump Era.

Our government has become like any other organized crime family, except for years and years they have operated under the guise of ‘public service’ and they’ve controlled law enforcement to a level the mafia could only dream about.

You begin to detect that by “our democracy” they actually meant “our everlasting grift.” And it didn’t die in darkness — it thrived, grew, and spread in the moist bureaucratic darkness like the Devil’s own slime mold. And now it is being revealed, to the astonished disgust of slightly more than half the nation that was not on-the-take. Turn over a log in the woods and you have the metaphor for “our democracy.” Countless hundred-footed things slither around under it, their feeding interrupted .
