I think of the opening scene in "My Man Godfrey" (available free on line, and worth the time) where the matron of the Estate explains to newly arrived Godfrey why he has been brought to a fancy ball as the object of a scavenger hunt.

It's just the honor of winning. The money goes to charity. That is, if there's any money left over, and there never is.
