They used to call it ‘winter.’

Some of us with good memories recall that such winter storms are not unusual in this country . My father, a small town family doctor, recounted the Armistice Day blizzard of 1940 and how in white out conditions he traveled to a farm to deliver a baby. I remember the winter of 1968-69 with a total of 100” inches of snow and numerous howling blizzards as well as the brutal winter of 1978. Somehow we survive these storms.

So ignore it if you don’t like it.

People need to know. And many people WANT to know.

Nobody is declaring a *national emergency* either.

Your exaggeration is no better than what you think you’re condemning.

Most of us do survive the storms. And warning people increases that likelihood.

Past NOAA Jan. prediction (Dec. 19):

https://web.archive.org/web/20241220100739/https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/30day/off14_temp.gif

Reality: below average temps see little mention:

The contiguous U.S. average temperature during January was 29.2°F, 0.9°F below average, ranking in the coolest third of the 131-year record and the coldest January since 1988. It was also the coldest January on record (2005-25) for the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN). - https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/monitoring/monthly-report/national/202501

Sigh.

If you don’t like it, stay off the weather threads.

It’s that simple.

There’s no need to go sneering at others are if you’re better than them just cause you don’t like it.

Other places have nice weather, too.

They’re predicting a little snow and rain in Charlotte Wednesday. I’ll get my jacket out.

Interesting.

I just don’t see the average temperature for this month as being higher than average.

Here in southwest Colorado we just got hammered with heavy snow.

I’m north of you near GJ. I thought you were below normal so far this season, is that right and are you catching up now? Back in my “ music on the road” days we always worried about Wolf Creek Pass. I remember Big Head Todd and the Monsters spending a night on the pass when their bus broke down in a blizzard. I have a friend with land on the Navajo River, near Chromo, was hoping for some early season fishing but a lot of late snow could wipe that out.

We have about 20+ acres, mostly wooded, and two years ago we lost power for two days due to a hemlock taking out the power lines.

There are lots of trees in our woods that are leaning over already. A good snow or ice event and I could see many of them coming down. OTOH, it provides us with plenty of firewood for heating without the difficulty of taking the tree down ourselves.

How about this: start a thread and expect that not everyone will have exactly the same take on it that you do?
