Vance Wields Threat of Sanctions, Military Action to Push Putin Into Ukraine Deal

Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that the U.S. would hit Moscow with sanctions and potentially military action if Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t agree to a peace deal with Ukraine that guarantees Kyiv’s long-term independence.

Vance said the option of sending U.S. troops to Ukraine if Moscow failed to negotiate in good faith remained “on the table,” striking a far tougher tone than did Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who on Wednesday suggested the U.S. wouldn’t commit forces.

“There are economic tools of leverage, there are of course military tools of leverage” the U.S. could use against Putin, Vance said.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal hours after President Trump said he would start negotiating with Putin to end the war in Ukraine, Vance said: “I think there is a deal that is going to come out of this that’s going to shock a lot of people.”

The vice president’s remarks, coming a day before a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, offered the Trump administration’s strongest-yet support for Kyiv in the face of Russian demands that it disarm and replace the current government.

“The president is not going to go in this with blinders on,” Vance said. “He’s going to say, ‘Everything is on the table, let’s make a deal.’”

“They will be heroes”

Knowing some Poles, that seems highly unlikely.
Its certainly not the impression I have of the Polish state of mind. It is a rather ancient idea of chivalry among those people, I cannot put it another way. Not “modern”. They are more storybook medieval even than Carlists. Such dishonorable dealing with the ancestral enemy is out of character.

Very sensitive about the KKK thing then?
Seems like there may be something there.

Granted the Poles I knew were in the US, engineers and technicians. Middle class, but the tech background works against a medieval outlook. On the whole I think I got it right.

Huh? Attempting to get their historic territories back from rump Ukraine is notable.

Carving up Ukraine and giving back land is a win win situation for everyone.

There is absolutely no public will for us to get involved in a direct conflict with Russia. Biden was not even insane enough to go there.

So, there is zero chance of us getting into a war with Russia that would cripple Trump's Presidency, distract from far more important issues and would have absolutely nothing to do with our national security.

This is the sort of wars that the President has repeatedly condemned and promised to get us out of. And, Trump has always kept him promises.

“They’re mad at me for statements made by Vice President Vance.”

Wrong. Turns out I was right. The WSJ lied about what Vance said. William Martin, Vance’s communications director called it “fake news”.

“Russia is now bombing Kiev and pushing forward.”

What are you talking about?? Russia in recent weeks has been periodically sending more than 100 bombs or Iranian drone bombs to various cities in Ukraine. All but 1 or 3 are being blocked by Ukraine each time. Hardly the picture of Russian success. On the other hand Ukraine has bombed so much of Russian oil refining capability that all available oil ships are full of oil they can’t get refined. It hurts to be Gasprom. If course, they say Ukraine has not bombed these facilities, merely that a few fires have been set by falling debris. Apparently Ukraine’s debris is a lot more effective than Russia’s debris.
