The NFL 'immediately' sent a letter of apology to Lil Wayne after announcing last year that Kendrick Lamar had been chosen to perform the Super Bowl halftime show.
Lil Wayne was denied the chance to headline this year's halftime show in New Orleans, a move which sparked outrage given his famous association with the Big Easy - where he was born and raised.
And to add to the controversy, Kendrick's performance at the Superdome was heavily criticized by viewers who were left underwhelmed on Sunday night.
The Not Like Us rapper, who included his famous diss track about bitter rival Drake, was slammed for putting on 'the worst halftime show ever' as fans made their displeasure known.
Prior to Sunday's show, sports commentator Skip Bayless expressed his anger that Lil Wayne had been snubbed for the New Orleans gig, while claiming the NFL issued an apology to him back in September after offering it to Kendrick.
Bayless, who is good friends with Lil Wayne, said on his YouTube show: 'The NFL immediately sent Wayne a letter of apology. From nobody in particular, just from the league on NFL letterhead.

Or the University of Wisconsin Marching Band. Maybe have them both play?
my grandson was in the USC marching band...
I lost interest in the entire SB show when it became apparent that it was KC turn to lose! SMH
I admit I don’t like Rap at all, but this was hardly the first Super Bowl half time show I didn’t care for.
Actually found this performance preferable to a lot of recent ones. Just by virtue some of the choreography being more high brow? LoL — former dancer taking notice.
I liked the female vocalist Sza and wish she were on longer.
I missed the rappers freak out halftime show. I always go out for some fresh air. Last time I watched was when the Stones and the Who were on, about 17 years ago. I despise all rap music. The only good rapper is 50¢. He’s the maga mega-troll. He is hilarious and loves classic cars. So he is no commie.
That is an understatement.
I agree with you. They gave him an option the cancel because if the heavy rains. He responded by smiling and saying “No, get more rain.” He was an extraordinary showman, and I believe it was one of the best halftime shows ever.
Probably the most "patriotic" rap performance I have ever seen.
As someone who enjoys almost every kind of music I have to say Rap is not musical. It grates on my ears like fingernails on a chalkboard or oriental screeching. I do wonder why there are no Rock or Country Bands playing anymore or even normal pop stars like Micheal Buble? I can’t believe that the majority of the country enjoys Rap.
You can't, just watch TV, the majority of America is Black, and they all have White Blond wives - check out the commercials.
Bring the Rolling Stone back for the halftime show. They performed in 2008.
The NFL should’ve been apologizing to US, for allowing that crap on the field.
Newsmax showed some clips of that halftime show. OMG. Not even ONE white face, out of about 75-100 performers.
I totally agree. Musically it wasn’t his best performance, obviously because of the rain, but the sheer energy was awesome.
Ebonics.
Enjoy playing find the white guy in the commercials.
But doesn’t Jay-Z have control over who gets to perform at the SB halftime show?
