NFL 'apologizes' over Super Bowl half time show snub as Kendrick Lamar performance is slammed

The NFL 'immediately' sent a letter of apology to Lil Wayne after announcing last year that Kendrick Lamar had been chosen to perform the Super Bowl halftime show.

Lil Wayne was denied the chance to headline this year's halftime show in New Orleans, a move which sparked outrage given his famous association with the Big Easy - where he was born and raised.

And to add to the controversy, Kendrick's performance at the Superdome was heavily criticized by viewers who were left underwhelmed on Sunday night.

The Not Like Us rapper, who included his famous diss track about bitter rival Drake, was slammed for putting on 'the worst halftime show ever' as fans made their displeasure known.

Prior to Sunday's show, sports commentator Skip Bayless expressed his anger that Lil Wayne had been snubbed for the New Orleans gig, while claiming the NFL issued an apology to him back in September after offering it to Kendrick.

Bayless, who is good friends with Lil Wayne, said on his YouTube show: 'The NFL immediately sent Wayne a letter of apology. From nobody in particular, just from the league on NFL letterhead.

“ I watched an episode of Bonanza during half time.
Good guys won.”

“ Why does anyone watch the SB halftime show? They have been so bad I wait until halftime to have dinner knowing I’m not going to miss anything.”

Thanksgiving dinner was always timed for halftime. Ties, jackets, dresses, silverware fine china, didn’t matter

You had The Southern University band....a lot of people have never seen HBCU marching bands before, it would have been much better entertainment.

Many years ago I was in a band that played the Southern University Freshman Dance (our band leader got his master’s there). Prior to our performance we attended the football game and watched the SU marching band’s halftime show...absolutely SMOKIN’!

You could have left the channel changed at halftime and beyond. The Game was already over at halftime.

I don’t watch tv, but watched about a minute of a YT clip of the halftime ‘show’.

As Jed Clampett would say: “pah-theh-tick!... jeessst pathetic!”

Diana Ross performed at Super Bowl XXX on Jan. 28, 1996. It was an awesome performance - probably the best ever. I remember being overwhelmed by the whole production - her music, the atmosphere, the special effects, and the technicality of the performance.

She also performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl XVI on Jan. 24, 1982.

As a high school and college band member, I was disappointed that Southern’s band, all over it for the pre-game show, wasn’t the main attraction for Halftime. That would’ve been OUTSTANDING and a major crowd pleaser. Broadcast without interruption or COMMENTARY. Football fans do not leave their seats if a good marching band or corps is performing. Universally appealing across every demographic.

God love you...

“That was the most awful simulation of music”

Don’t know about the music or the message because I didn’t try to follow that, but the dancers were good.

oh wow!!! Thank you for letting me know. I probably watched it live but just not remember it. Will look for it online.

there’s no reason a performer can’t come back for an encore. especially a legend like her!

That was the mic drop of all mic drops for a marching band!

I changed the channel for the halftime show.

Which is unacceptable, The NFL needs to provide entertainment that everyone can actually enjoy. Of course, 60's and 70's entertainers are getting harder to come by.

The problem with Kendrick Lamar is that he raps in coded language much of the time. You have to be a super fan just to understand what the heck he is talking about. For a general audience like the Super Bowl audience it just sounds like gibberish. It was a totally wrong venue for this singer.

I am of Kendrick’s generation and would prefer Pat Benatar or Diana Ross - both are still alive and incredible performers.

I was at Super Bowl XXX in Tempe. Diana Ross came down in a helicopter. She was ok, not enough time and crummy acoustics in Sun Devil Stadium. The game was a stinker, too. Steelers-Cowboys.

They should have a Super Bowl of high school marching bands and the top two or three would be invited to the Super Bowl.

This is supposed to be about competition not who can produce the most cringeworthy woke entertainment.

The people they are trying to entertain don’t watch football. I suspect they lost half their audience during the halftime. I have not watched a Super Bowl halftime since they stopped featuring marching bands.

I like the idea of traditional halftime shows. No need for extending the time of regulation halftime. Play ball, not politics.
