Legendary singer Buffy Sainte-Marie has been sensationally stripped of her honors title after allegedly 'lying about her heritage.'
The 83-year-old Oscar-winning singer has been stripped of her prestigious Order of Canada following explosive claims she fabricated her Indigenous heritage.
The Order of Canada - bestowed upon more than 7,600 people since 1967 - represents the highest of recognition for 'extraordinary contributions to the nation.'
The star, who won an Academy Award for co-writing 'Up Where We Belong,' had been awarded the Order of Canada in 1997 for her supposed work championing Indigenous causes.
The decision, quietly published in Canada Gazette on Saturday, comes after 2023's shocking investigation revealed the singer may have built her entire career on deception.
A notice by Secretary General of the Order of Canada, Ken MacKillop, reads: 'Notice is hereby given that the appointment of Buffy Sainte-Marie to the Order of Canada was terminated by Ordinance signed by the Governor General [Mary Simon] on January 3, 2025.'

And remember that woman, who claimed to be black? She was supposedly a lighter skinned black woman, and had some position in the NAACP? I forget her name, but, she was exposed as a white woman.
I heard her perform, many years ago, but never knew that she claimed Indian heritage. As best I can recall, there wasn’t a very large crowd at the performance—I don’t think she was ever very famous.
I personally don’t give a damn what your heritage is.
As long as you make a good contribution to the world,
that is your only value.
If you depend on race or heritage to feel good about your self, you have a severe personal problem.
her face doesnt look right for being in her 80s. so i think she used some kind of program to make her skin look smoother.

Yeah, she threatened at least one male relative with false claims of sexual abuse if he told the truth about her. No sympathy, don’t care of she’s old - that just means she got away with it for too long
Well that Armenian, Cher, tried to pass herself off as an Indian when she did “Half Breed”.
So did the American man, used in ads, with a tear running down his face. But he was of ITALIAN ancestry!
Since there is no such thing as an “indigenous” Canadian - or “native” American (their ancestors, like ours came from somewhere else)....who cares?
And the Indian in the Village people.
Shania Twain is native through adoption, not really ethnicity. Her adopted father was part of the Objiwa tribe. She’s never made it a central point to her identity and received income from her claim.
Buffy used her deception to make millions, to give her street cred in folk music.
