Trump wants a deal for Ukraine’s natural resources as ‘payback’ in exchange for aid stopping Russia attack: envoy

The US won’t repeat the mistakes of the Iraq War by failing to secure valuable resources from Ukraine in exchange for help ending Russia’s nearly three-year-old invasion, President Trump’s special envoy to the conflict exclusively told The Post.

“When you look at the mineral deposits in that country, we’re not talking millions of dollars. We’re talking — virtually every region, we’re talking about billions, and then some regions are [worth] trillions,” retired Gen. Keith Kellogg said this week.

“You can come up with a deal, and that’s what [Trump] has the Treasury looking at: ‘OK, how do you make a deal where aid is predicated off of the payback [of] precious metals?'”

-snip-

“When we walked out of the Iraq War, we don’t have a single oil contract in Iraq proper — they’re all in Kurdistan,” Kellogg explained. “Nothing. All the sacrifice went to no one. So I think the president is taking an economical look: ‘If you want to do this, there’s got to be something good for the American people,’ and that’s how he’s looking at it.”

On Friday, Trump told reporters he intended to meet with Zelensky next week and indicated he was interesting in discussing Ukraine’s resources and obtaining “an equal amount of something” in exchange for American backing.

“We would like them to equalize,” said the president, who added that he wants to see the “ridiculous” European war brought to an end “just on a human basis” and that many Ukrainian cities have been devastated “worse than Gaza.”

Ukraine holds about 7% of the world’s supply of titanium — the largest reserves of any European country

Sound like a different kind of “loan”, to be paid back over time with valuable mineral exports.

The prospect of ownership of Ukrainian resources will be a reason to continue the war. It looked as if a peace settlement was on the way, but I do not see that now. Time will tell.

He’s wheeling and dealing. How about he gives the rights to these minerals to the Russians to get concessions on the Iran deal? But what about Ukraine? Trump doesn’t care about Ukes, Russians or Iranians. Right now Trump is only concerned about Americans.

Whatever deals Trump does, you and I will always benefit.

There is a saying in the crypto world . . . not your keys, not your bitcoins. If you entrust them to a broker, they ain’t yours anymore.

That derived from the true reality of such things. If the stuff is not within your border, it ain’t yours and anyone who has it can change their minds at any time.

Ask Chevron in Venezuela, or in Ecuador.

Not your keys, not your coins.

That may be interesting as Russians took over the
oil and mineral producing areas.
The left over Ukraine is a food producer possibly equal to our midwest USA.
No oil, or minerals.

Oh, I missed the absurd sentence about Titanium and the #1 source in Europe.

Not too hard when Europe doesn’t have any.

The big kahuna of titanium is Australia and they are something like 1000X more than Ukraine.

This minerals thing is just silly.

The question is can Russia hold it, especially if Trump wants to make a deal with the Ukrainians?

How about this.

1) Cease-fire and Russia gets to keep all that it stole but all international sanctions and likely more to follow against Russia will remain in effect as long as they remain in Ukrainian territory.

or

2) Ceasefire and complete Russian withdrawal and repayment of damages to Ukraine means all sanctions against Russia lifted and NO NATO entry for Ukraine.

Over time? The payback damn well better be retroactive and immediate.

Any deal should involve paying back the money we've already put in.

Ceasefire and complete Russian withdrawal and repayment of damages to Ukraine

Only an imbecile would think that is possible.

Ukraine isn't getting an inch of territory back NOR do those in the annexed territory want to go back to being part of Ukraine again.

The only attempt to steal land was Ukrainian nationalists from the people in ethnic and cultural Russian part of the Ukraine.

Pretty easy.
Russians have nukes.
Unless you are a maniac,
nobody wants to fight a war
where entire peoples are lost.
Japan was a mess after just two bombs,
our weapons today are much better
and more accurate.
You and I will do just fine without a WA. DC,
but Russia and China and many other countries
won’t do so well without
their capitols.

“The payback damn well better be retroactive and immediate.”

It won’t be. (1) The Ukraine economy will not have the wherewithal “immediately” and likely for years and (2) the mineral extractions will not be immediate and will take place over years.

Enough with the threats of nukes. The Soviet Union had them when they were forced out of Afghanistan. The Russians are already running out of men, money, and material. Their economy is a mess. All that Trump has to do is give Ukraine enough support to make it too costly for the Russians to remain.
