Beyond the pilot order, I hear the reboot is starting a writers room soon, a sign that Hulu and the studios have high expectations for the project going to series. It is unclear yet whether other original Buffy cast members would return; that is considered likely.
Described as the next chapter in the Buffyverse, the new incarnation is executive produced by Gellar, Zhao, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman as well as the original series’ executive producers Gail Berman of the Jackal Group and Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B. Also executive producing the pilot is Dolly Parton whose company Sandollar was producer on the original.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who also wrote the 1992 movie the series was based on, has no involvement in the reboot. He has not worked in Hollywood in any official capacity since facing a slew of misconduct allegations in 2021.
If the Hulu pilot goes to series, it would be the third in the franchise, following mothership Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired on the WB for five seasons from 1997-2001 before dramatically moving to UPN for two more, and spinoff Angel, which ran on the WB for five seasons (1999-2004).

Another reboot. How original.
It will live or die by the writing. Whedon attracted a lot of good writing, but not clear if they can be available.
Note Vince Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad, came from Buffy’s writing room.
A Presold Property.
Hollywood and the theater in general is wholly uninspiring. They’ve lost their way and along with that their souls. So sad, we don’t produce beautiful art anymore.
Buffy was an excellent series and Angel was close to great, it could have been even more heroic with more religious hints.
SMG supports conservativism as is pro-2A. She is all good in my book. The dude that played Angel was also your main protagonist in the awesome series SEAL Team.
They just can’t seem to find anything original anymore. 3rd rock from the sun was fun. I always thought the Solomons were modeled after Herman Munster. Seems like every show is just a recombination of stuff from various other shows.
The 1990s saw an explosion of "positive" gay portrayals in film and TV. Will and Grace was a "gay positive" sitcom. And too many "gay positive" films to list.
I only say a couple of Buffy episodes, and none of Angel. But wasn’t the series very pagan friendly? A lesbian character who was a practicing Wiccan?
My son loved Buffy because Geller was “the cutest girl in the world”.
I never watched more than a couple of episodes of Buffy with him, but I do binge-watch reruns of the mystery series “Bones,” starring David Boreanaz, who was on a great many Buffy episodes.. IMHO, the absolutely best looking guy I’ve ever seen, not “Hollywood handsome”. Good actor too.. Series is extremely well-written.,
“Bones” may not fit your idea of beautiful, but from my point of view it checks all the boxes for acting, production, and writing. (I made my living in the publishing business both as a writer and editor.)
It did create a character who was a white witch, remember the show was about vampires and people who were born as vampire hunters, so there was a lot of all kinds of things.
I always thought that Zooey DesChanel was far prettier than her sister. Better actress, too.
Yes indeed... Even at 91, I'll give it a shot by watching it...
Angel is a character that became part of the Buffy series and then was spun off into a kind of parallel sister series of Buffy, about Angel and his part of the mission.
