Trump wants ‘guarantee’ that US will get Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for aid: ‘Handing them money hand over fist’

-snip-

Ukraine is one of the largest rare earth mineral suppliers in the world, and has the largest titanium reserves in Europe.

The country also boasts deposits of lithium, beryllium, manganese, gallium, uranium, zirconium, graphite, apatite, fluorite, and nickel, per the World Economic Forum.

Russian forces have already taken parts of Eastern Ukraine that had historically provided the rest of the country with key minerals, notably much of the coal-supplying Donbas region.

But other parts of Ukraine, including the Dnieper River basin that runs through the center of the country and the Carpathian Mountains in the West, have massive supply of minerals and natural gas under Kyiv’s control.

If they have what we need, this sounds like a much better deal than we’re currently getting.

Interestingly , NONE of the elements specifically named are literally (scientifically) “Rare Earth Minerals”; They may be uncommon to find in commercial quantities, but they aren’t “Rare Earth Minerals.

I also got kind of a kick out of one of the image descriptors calling a pile of chunks of sandstone “Geologic Rock”....

Russia is about to cross the Dnieper, destroy everything on the surface, and take the mineral rights. Then Ukraine's neighbors can play make a wish with the rest of Ukraine.

I noticed that as well. That list are not REE and can be found many places.

As for natgas, no, it’s just not there. Ukraine’s total endowment of nat gas is about 1.1 trillion cubic meters.

In the world of oil and gas, people read billion and trillion and imagine it is infinite. Truth is . . . global consumption of nat gas is 4 trillion cubic meters per year.

So if you could get Ukraine’s gas to flow fast enough, you’d have 3 months of global supply and then it is empty. Forever.

Pretty sure the gas was alleged to be around Kharkiv. But no matter. There’s not enough to have generated interest by Gazprom for the decades that Ukraine was Russia friendly.

Production from there is about 20 billion cubic meters/year, which is approximately Ukraine consumption. Again don’t get excited by billion and trillion numbers. US consumption (mostly consumption, a small portion exported) is 1.1 trillion cubic meters/yr. See how 20 billion is nothing and not worth Gazprom’s time?

Trust Ukraine? The age old EU saying “ when shaking hands with a Ukrainian, be sure to check how many fingers he stole”…I am sure President Trump already knows this- the entire EU does.

So, let me get this straight. Trump will give Ukraine more money so that whatever males are left between the ages of 16 and 60 will continue to be put into the meat grinder of Russia’s army, until all are dead, if Ukraine signs over all rights to their minerals, so that Black Rock can own them. Or does Trump expect the US Army to start a mining operation over there? This is a very sick disgusting deal to help insure the final total destruction of Ukraine paid for by Trump dollars. I thought Trump promised to “end the Ukraine war on Day 1”.

I've heard that expression with other nationalities, too.

It works on so many levels.

I am sure President Trump already knows this- the entire EU does.

I think the idea is to avail the U.S.of a lever to enter if necessary, using enforcement of the agreement as the mechanism.

Your anti Ukrainian bigotry isn’t funny, but typical for Russians. Do you get an extra serving of soup in the cafeteria for posting here?

You are mixing up the Russians with the Ukrainians. Right now the dead bodies littering the Donbas and Kursk are mostly Russian.

I'm positive President Trump came away with ALL of the Uke Nazi fingers in Ukraine.

Which will make the Uke Nazis easy to Identify, Prosecute, Convict and Sentence to Restitutional Labor Camps. There they'll get their fingers back and learn to be skilled Rare Earth Mineral Miners.

Everybody Wins!

No, unlike the majority here, I worked in both countries. First hand knowledge, which many in the EU know but will never say.
