two thoughts:

1. Aside from the thrill of pissing in Justin Trudeau's cornflakes, the case for punishing Canada is flimsy. The threat from drugs and migrants is a rounding error compared to that from China and Mexico.

2. Unless you think Biden left us with a robust economy. the risk of tipping us into recession is a hell of a lot higher than a zero probability. Trade seizing up will absolutely take a toll on economic growth.

You are wrong about Canada, China has been using Canada to do a dead end run around Mexico. These tariffs are indeed needed to wake Canada up and hold them accountable, more importantly is tells China Trump knows the game and it won’t work with him.

As I mentioned elsewhere, deciding to tariff Canada is a Hobson’s choice. If Trump put tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as he did, he is destroying the ecomony naxi fascist orangeman pig. If Trump only put tariffs on Mexico and not Canada because Mexico’s complicity is more heinous, then he is not only all of the above but also RACIST HATES BROWN PEOPLE. Might as well hit everyone at once.

I think Trump and Musk are looking at the balance of trade between countries. We’ll see.

On Canada being a source for importing drugs apparently that’s a major thing there’s a whole big thread breaking on it on x... Seems they’ve been the money laundering capital for the cartels

“...9% of U.S. natural gas supplies are sourced from Canada...”
“...energy tariffs applied to Canada are limited to 10%...”
-
A 10% increase on 9% of the supply.
That is a 1% increase on the overall price.

All this will mean is that America will ship less LNG to Europe at higher prices to supply local demand here. There will need to be more gas pipelines built in the U.S. to offset dependence on Canada - more jobs. Canada may supply Europe with a bit more LNG but most of its active ports are in BC on the Pacific Ocean which means higher transportation costs to Europe. There may be a few losers in America but the biggest ones hit are in Europe.

Every politician wants a carve out. Farmers need Canadian fertilizer ingredients.

You and I are thinking similarly. China and Mexico I understand. Tariffs on Canada I don’t understand. Can someone smarter than me explain?

The increased value of the dollar and the rapid decrease of the Canuck Buck and peso will offset a bunch of the tariffs they are imposing on us.

This will be a sprint, not a marathon.

A 10% tariff on 9% of our energy should result in a one or two percent increase in energy cost to us.

Hardly the world coming to an end.

Which state you from?
Doesnt seem that you know WTF your talking about converning drug running across the northern border.

BTW. That little prick Trudolt is trying to split Canada apart like they wanted in 1995. That separation vote lost with less than 55 thousand votes or about 1% of the total.

They would have been way better off getting rid of those frogs.

BTW. Canadas border with the USA is largely free access. And we watched as tons of drugs were shipped across into the USA and the drug lords collected funds in US dollars coverting it into Canadian currency.
As for the crooks like Trudolt? Anybody with a tiny bit of common sense can connect the dots.
