1. Aside from the thrill of pissing in Justin Trudeau's cornflakes, the case for punishing Canada is flimsy. The threat from drugs and migrants is a rounding error compared to that from China and Mexico.
2. Unless you think Biden left us with a robust economy. the risk of tipping us into recession is a hell of a lot higher than a zero probability. Trade seizing up will absolutely take a toll on economic growth.
You are wrong about Canada, China has been using Canada to do a dead end run around Mexico. These tariffs are indeed needed to wake Canada up and hold them accountable, more importantly is tells China Trump knows the game and it won’t work with him.
As I mentioned elsewhere, deciding to tariff Canada is a Hobson’s choice. If Trump put tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as he did, he is destroying the ecomony naxi fascist orangeman pig. If Trump only put tariffs on Mexico and not Canada because Mexico’s complicity is more heinous, then he is not only all of the above but also RACIST HATES BROWN PEOPLE. Might as well hit everyone at once.
You are going to have to fight for the lunch money
I bet in all your years, nobody ever punched square in the face
I think Trump and Musk are looking at the balance of trade between countries. We’ll see.
What does you post even mean? LOL
On Canada being a source for importing drugs apparently that’s a major thing there’s a whole big thread breaking on it on x... Seems they’ve been the money laundering capital for the cartels
” as he did, he is destroying the ecomony naxi fascist orangeman pig”
Is there something I’m not understanding here?
I support Trump’s tariffs. we’ll see what happens.
The Commission on Combating Synthetic Opioid Trafficking, established under Section 7221 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020, found “Canada is not known to be a major source of fentanyl, other synthetic opioids or precursor chemicals to the United States, a conclusion primarily drawn from seizure data.”
The person it was intended for will get it
“...9% of U.S. natural gas supplies are sourced from Canada...”
“...energy tariffs applied to Canada are limited to 10%...”
-
A 10% increase on 9% of the supply.
That is a 1% increase on the overall price.
I’m repeating what Trump critics are saying concerning the tariffs as they are now, and pointing out that if he left out Canada, the critics would say the only reason he was tariff-ing Mexico was racism, in addition to all the other usual complaints.
Well OK? Not sure why you replied to me then.
All this will mean is that America will ship less LNG to Europe at higher prices to supply local demand here. There will need to be more gas pipelines built in the U.S. to offset dependence on Canada - more jobs. Canada may supply Europe with a bit more LNG but most of its active ports are in BC on the Pacific Ocean which means higher transportation costs to Europe. There may be a few losers in America but the biggest ones hit are in Europe.
You really need to expand your field of view, this is not specific to physical fentanyl trafficking.
Others have already posted about the bigger picture. Do some homework.
Every politician wants a carve out. Farmers need Canadian fertilizer ingredients.
You and I are thinking similarly. China and Mexico I understand. Tariffs on Canada I don’t understand. Can someone smarter than me explain?
Do we have a lot of illegal immigrants crossing into the US from Canada? Does someone have numbers?
Post is pointling out the probable reactions of the two countries to Trump’s moves.
