Dry pour into the form. Then water it in. Saves the high cost of delivered pre-mix. Guaranteed to crack when the form is removed. Every time.

If they don’t mix it properly and it doesn’t cure correctly, you get a hot mess like this. An abundance or rain can do that, given the temperatures.

It doesn’t surprise me that in hot arid areas, you will need more moisture.

It’s smart you are doing shorter spans. The bigger the spans, the greater the likelihood of cracks over time.

The concrete walkway areas outside our Walmart are worse than that.

We used a 6 sack mix for the driveway and it held up. 5 bags would have been used if I had not specified a better mix. I think they default to 5 because of slightly lower cost and easier workability.

Looks to me more like they let it freeze before all the moisture was out and they didn’t put antifreeze in when they poured it.
