We just went to our local Wal-Mart in Bluffton SC. Armed security at each entrance. My husband got to talking to one and asked if there was a problem in the store. The reply was NO, it is a new policy and will be from 11am til closing every day. Asked if they are authorized to use force if necessary and was told, “YES” there is a new President, new rules,”.
Has anyone else seen this or has it been a policy at other stores? We were stunned.
Location?
Sorry, I blew right by it.
The Wal-Mart cop was standing at the door when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm.
‘Sir, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?’
‘No Ma’am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle or a shotgun.’
True story.
Walmarts here in Virginia Beach have had a cop going on 2 years if not longer.
City cops , all stores from open to close 6am-11pm
Bodyguards have been at our theaters for years. They wear body armor.
But that’s Memphis.
I don’t know about armed security at our Arkansas Walmart but I can tell you most shoppers are armed in the store on a daily basis.
Any comments on why WalMart can use or threaten deadly force to protect their property but we peasants may not?
Perhaps they are there as security for Walmart customers?
Would they still let a perp stroll out with a cart full of big screen TV’s?
Just wondering.
I took a trip to New Mexico recently and they told me it was the upsurge in crime.
If I’m in an area that needs armed guards at a Wal-mart or movie theater it tells me I’m hanging out in the wrong area. Cops everywhere don’t make me feel safer, they’re an indication that I’m in a high crime area and I’ll go spend my money elsewhere. I’m too old to hang out in a ghetto.
Wow. Weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before.
Bluffton?
I have work at the HD there from time to time and I am 5hrs away.
Isn’t that a retirement/resort area?
I don’t frequent wallyworld, but I do stop in on occasion for odds and ends.
I’ll report back in this thread with my own local observations, perhaps in a couple of days (or more).
Regards,
During my time with Dallas PD, I had a lot of off-duty gigs as security in various venues. Greyhound station, Blockbuster Video and various music venues. Got my picture taken with Celine Dion at Blockbuster. Not a huge fan but she was nice.
Bluffton, SC 29910
Not here in Dallas, TX
Here in east TN, just west of Knoxville, I’ve never seen any cops at the nearby Walmarts.
I figure many shoppers are armed, though, so if trouble broke out it probably would be squelched quickly.
I haven’t seen it here, but I’m usually armed when I go into Walmart. There’s been a few shootings at a couple of them here. I will look for them next time I go.
good! Our Walmart has practically everything locked up/tagged.
A $3.00 item locked up. I won’t buy the stuff if I have to find a lazy employee to unlock it. I can shop somewhere else.
