Based on Frederick Forsyth's best-selling novel of political intrigue, The Day of the Jackal, tells of a cold, suave British assassin hired by the French OAS to kill General Charles de Gaulle. Nameless and faceless, the killer, known by the code name of Jackal (Edward Fox), relentlessly moves toward the date with death that would rock the world. The tension mounts as the methodical preparations of the Jackal are paralleled with the efforts of the police to uncover the plot, which gives the story non-stop, edge-of-your-seat suspense.

No, but he was a handicapped Haitian dwarf.
Read the book first early 70’s, and thought the movie was a masterpiece.
Book highlighted French domestic surveillance in that era.
The most riveting scene, and one of the all-time best, is the discovery of Wolfgar in the disco. I could watch it endlessly.
Peacock aired the first season of their version of “Day of the Jackal” the end of 2024. It’s been renewed for a second season. British actor Eddie Redmayne plays The Jackal.
That image sends a chill down my spine. One inch in Butler.
One of my Top 10 movies, I’ve watched it probably 7 or 8 times. Of course we’re talking the 1973 version.
The scene where he tells the girl in the bar, “I’m an international terrorist wanted by the police in half the countries in Europe. And I am currently laying low for the moment.”, and she thinks he’s joking.
Seriously... Karine Jean-Pierre played de Gaulle. Must of been rivoting...
I was in a cable TV test market, as a teen. This was one of many first-run movies that I watched many times.
I always assumed it was a .22 WMR, Hornet or Bee.
IIRC, the actual bullet for the kill shot was explosive Lead-azide or something similar.
He is also in Robert Ludlum’s Bourne novels.
Personally, I prefer the weapon Bruce Willis used in the 1st remake.
Poor Jack Black!

Yeah, but the ammo cost and finding a range that will let you sight in........................
The book is better.
I just finished watching, thanks to your suggestion. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of profanity and the bedroom scenes were comparatively tasteful and utterly pertinent to the plot.
I like the fact that the jackal character is naturally charismatic, but as the movie plays on, it is clear he is a charismatic psychopath. Edward Fox was perfect for the role.
Great flick.
What you said in post 22. The first movie was an excellent adaptation of the book.
I have seen the 1973 version of this picture several times.
I recently saw the miniseries I believe it was on Peacock and it was actually very very good I would recommend it.
The Bruce Willis version back in the late 1990s wasn’t too bad either. It changed the scenario up some but still pretty good show.
