Good topic for planning. My Dad got the most out of his south side Chicago backyard garden. He heavily fed it with buried carp he had caught and horse manure he picked up on drives to Indiana, just across the state line from us, he knew of a riding trail and would take a shovel and put it in his trunk. His best space saving idea which worked great is sweet corn, he only had about a dozen stalks but he put his cukes in with the corn and trailed the vines up the cornstalks. Worked great.
I love this idea for my garden area. I only have a small sliver of full sun in my yard, which is on my walkway to the house. This is giving me new ideas how to mix in edible plants with my floral landscaping. The tarragon last season has been such a big hit (as are the other herbs there), and now I have ideas for tomatoes, shishito peppers, and a few spots for baby potatoes.
