If it was me, I would have kept quiet about where I bought it. There is a doctrine in contract law called "mutual mistake" that lets a seller or buyer rescind a contract if both were materially mistaken about what was being sold.

If this turns out to be a genuine Vincent van Gogh then I suspect some lawyers are going to be making a lot of money off of it.
