The Oscar nominations are here.
Despite the debate over whether the big show should go on amid the devastation in Los Angeles from the wildfires, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pressed ahead and the Academy Award nominees for 2025 were announced on Jan. 23.

Rachel Sennott (Saturday Night, Shiva Baby) and Bowen Yang (Wicked, Saturday Night Live) helmed the early morning nominations ceremony at the academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater and announced the 23 categories. The presentation was livestreamed on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and the academy’s social media accounts, and aired on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Emilia Pérez led with the most nominations, 13, including Best Picture, Best Director (Jacques Audiard) Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón) and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña). That was followed by The Brutalist and Wicked, which both had 10 nominations.
At the top of the show, Bill Kramer and Janet Yang, the academy’s CEO and president, respectively, acknowledged that it had been a difficult time amid the wildfires.
“During this year’s ceremony, we will honor the talented filmmakers nominated today, pay tribute to our brave first responders and celebrate the enduring spirit of Los Angeles and the film industry,” Kramer said.
The show is set to take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Conan O'Brien will host.
And the nominees are…

Emilia Pérez is transgender Woke nonsense. The Brutalist is disappointing. It could have been good but isn’t. Wicked is a nice movie with catchy tunes. None deserve Oscars or even to be nominated. Then again, I never watch them so I don’t care.
I think the Emilia Perez movie is all about gender dysphagia and trans surgery. Not suprised it had the most nominations. Hard pass on that one.
Said this a few years ago, but I’m looking forward to the day where a “trans woman” (sic) beats out four or so leftist women for “Best Actress”, shattering actual career and life dreams. That’s when this virtue s#@t will be hard for them to fake.
(It will be like the lefty fire victims who will be suing the state; “climate change” can’t be part of their filing.)
The best movie ever made has already been made. If you love movies, buy physical media while you still can.
Hollyweird can go to Hell as far as I am concerned, oh wait, I see smoke.
The best movie ever made has already been made.
Ditto for music.
The best woman for the job is a man.
It will sweep ALL the categories and liberals will swoon and say it portends the future of Hollywood...........
As usual.
I’m under the impression that the goal of wicked is to find excuses for wicked and evil behavior.
Yeah, like “Braveheart” and “Gladiator” (the first one anyways).
And you’re correct.
“Ditto for music.”
John Williams isn’t dead yet...there’s hope.

Yeah, but Tito Puente is dead.
It was absolutely unwatchable!
RE: 2025 Oscar nominations: ‘Emilia Pérez’ leads with 13 nods, followed by ‘The Brutalist’ and ‘Wicked’ with 10
Honestly, other than ‘Wicked’, I am not aware of any of these films listed.
The thing that jumped out at me was how heavily the Best Picture, Best Director and acting nominations are concentrated on a handful of films. I’ve been arguing all year that 2024 was an awful year for movies because, given the lead time on movies, we’re still in the rainshadow of the actors’ and writers’ strikes. In prior years, I’ve had no difficulty finding a half a dozen or more movies to recommend; not so in 2024. My fingers are crossed on 2025 as more post-strike stuff starts to come out. I also think that we are clearly past peak woke, which can only help.
Of the current Best Picture nominees, the only one I’ve seen is Dune 2, and that did not impress me. We enjoyed Wicked when we saw it on the stage, but the movie holds no interest for me. I will probably check out a couple of the others eventually, but I am under motivated at this point.
I’m a bit surprised that Saiorse Ronan didn’t get a Best Actress nomination for The Outrun, but not having seen any of the others, I will withhold my grumping.
How that snide donut licking midget cheating homewrecker, got nominated I don’t know, but then I don’t watch anyway.
Right there with you.
Out two primary Oscar goals this year: Ignore the fires and resultant suffering right next-door, and drag out the Hitler equals Trump tropes.
Given the bad optics of having a group onanism around the corner from the fires, the organizers might consider a new venue: Mars.
