Animals are incredible. They have souls and emotions. We lost a calf to some predator two weeks ago. The mother went from the feeding area and back out to the timber over and over until someone went to check. She cried and sniffed what was left and mourned after. New little ones had not seen a warm day since their birth and were out cavorting yesterday not knowing in their young lives days came in any flavor but cold! These are not my cows but a young renters. I am trying to get him to time his bull so little ones aren’t born in winter.It has been ages since I had cows. I had some old hay so hauled it and built a windbreak against the coming bitter cold. The calves played king of the mountain but instinctively laid on the lee side of the bales. A light rain began and the mommas immediately led the babies into the timber. Cows and their predecessors have been surviving the elements for more than thousands of years in the same ways by instinct. I do consider the lilies of the field and the sparrow but try to give a hand when I can.
