It looks good. Basically a bigger version with bigger controllers and a bigger screen. The Japanese like everything tiny and cute so maybe they are releasing this next console keeping in mind their giant friends in the west.

To me, Jumpman will always be a carpenter, not a plumber. LOL

You played the original arcade game, where he was in fact "jumpman". Very good! My father worked on the ColecoVision and told me about the Mario nickname that was passed areound internally before it became commonly used.

I remember when I learned that Atari was an American company, that they picked a Japanese sounding name so that they'd sound cool. LOL My first impression of a video game was the cabinet game Stunt Cycle by Atari.

Mario was named after the landlord of the building that Nintendo of America had. He even looked like “Jumpman” so they used his name for the character.

Atari was never my favorite. I liked Gremlin/Sega, Nichibitsu (Crazy Climber) and Bally/Midway more. I also respected Williams for having great concepts well-executed. However, Atari was always creative in the controller department. "Stunt Cycle" used real handlebars (as would the wonderful Atari game "Paperboy"). Missle Command was one of the first great trackball games, but Atari Football had as many as four heavy duty trackballs. Atari had a crazy fire engine game where the front driver controlled the front of the engine, and another driver steered the back.

I'm not a gamer, at all, but this slightly larger handheld that appears to support the legacy library, but also has a doc, probably with a GPU booster inside, and allows using a large flatscreen with the portability of the controllers looks like a great idea. The estimated higher price kinda figures, much better performance, expanded capability.Nintendo Switch 2 – First-look trailer | 2:21

IMHO it’s like Atari was great as an early adopter, but didn’t later keep up with others’ improvements on screen rendering and sprite collision detection. By the time the Commodore 64 home computer came out, you could program games better than most Atari games. At least, that’s what some of my pals did as teenagers before we got into code jockeying as a career. LOL
My father was very proud when I made the Monopoly board game from scratch, including reading joystick controls so we wouldn’t have to reach the game console keyboard to roll the dice. LOL

yeah that’s only for the Nintendo Direct not the actual pre order date..since the Nintendo Switch 2 experience worldwide tour ends on June 1st most are speculating that the release date is sometime in June
To: Sarah Barracuda
Well... never mind. Saw a source that called that the release date, but that’s just a preview date. Your guess is probably right. They only said it would be released this year.

Yeah Im hoping its april but the Nintendo Switch worldwide tour ends on June 1st so some are saying that while the tour is going on they wont have it for sale but who knows

The Atari home computer would be different from the Atari arcade systems. Yes, many of the early ones used the same 6502 processor (I am partial to the Z-80 for that era).
But Atari’s System 1 (Paperboy) and System 2 (Marble Madness) as well as licensed games from Sun, Namco and others (e.g. Kangaroo and Dig-Dug)

We had the NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64. My daughter bought Switch #1. I sent her the link to the new one.
She used to kick my butt on Super Mario Kart. It was fun. I wouldn’t mind having one.

Never went past the N64, PS1. I did not like where video games went after that.

It probably costs an arm and a leg.
