‘Can’t Be Trusted, At All!’ Steve Bannon Slams Mark Zuckerberg After Pivot Toward MAGA
Mediaite ^ | 1/13/2024 | Alex Griffing

Former Trump White House advisor turned MAGA-world podcaster, Steve Bannon, remained unconvinced on Monday that Mark Zuckerberg’s latest moves at Meta mean the CEO has actually bought into any of President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda or the MAGA movement.

Zuckerberg raised eyebrows and grabbed headlines last week when he announced that Meta would do away with its fact-checking and phase in a “more comprehensive community note system” – as Elon Musk’s X has done. Zuckerberg also said Meta would move its “trust and safety and content moderation teams out of California, and our US-based content review is going to be based in Texas,” also following Musk’s geographic moves with some of his companies.

Axios described Zuckerberg’s latest moves in stark terms, writing, “They say it’s hard to turn a battleship around, but Mark Zuckerberg just about-faced his globe-spanning, $1.5 trillion-value, 3 billion-user company — transforming Meta from a bastion of Silicon Valley’s socially progressive neoliberalism into a full-on MAGA hive.” Bannon, however, made clear he isn’t buying and told his MAGA followers they shouldn’t either.

“The corporations are all down there right now with their little million dollar checks and they want to come to the you know, they want to come to the inauguration. They want to wear black tie and pal around and go to all the receptions. That’s all fine. That’s part of an American tradition,” Bannon said, adding:

But those corporations, and particularly the tech corporations, there’s some comments I have in the New York Post today with the great Miranda Devine talking about Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg can’t be trusted — at all! He came in the Oval Office. They allowed him in the Oval Office when I was there, and I went absolutely bonkers.

But he still got to the Oval Office and later he put up $450 million of his own money to steal the 2020 election. To steal the 2020 election. These guys are supplicants now because President Trump is coming in with the American people, have his back. But after six months, a year of hard fighting and resistance at the administration and deep level and the corporations is Zuckerberg and these guys can they be counted on? Only thing they can be counted on is look after their own self-interest. That’s it.

Bannon has also fought publicly with Musk in recent weeks. “He is a truly evil guy, a very bad guy. I made it my personal thing to take this guy down,” Bannon told an Italian newspaper over the weekend. “Before, because he put money in, I was prepared to tolerate it; I’m not prepared to tolerate it anymore.”

Musk and Bannon open a civil war within MAGA over high-skilled foreign worker visas, which Bannon wants to see restricted and Musk argues are a key part of his businesses. Bannon has also slammed Musk in the past for his ties to China and suggested he is not loyal to the United States. “I will have Elon Musk run out of here by Inauguration Day,” Bannon vowed in his weekend interview, excerpts of which were published in Breitbart.

The notion that the tech oligarchs are "bending the knee" with an iota of commitment to policy is a joke. As Bannon asserts, it's self-interest. And their loyalty is to wherever the greatest payoff is.

Zuckerbuck is just cozying up to PDJT to hopefully avoid being arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced to a VERY long prison term for rigging the 2020 election.

The tech oligarchs want Indian indentured servants. Will they get them? I think probably not.

“Techie guys aside”??

Why should techie guys dodge scrutiny? For years they were a corrupt, malignant force in American society, but now all is sweetness and light since they’re writing checks to the Inauguration?

(Zuckerberg spent $300 million stealing the last election.)

It was actually $400 million for ballot harvesting and drop boxes.

I meant I wasn’t arguing about techies, just noting Bannon’s ongoing nervous breakdown, which has gotten tiresome. I think he’s jealous of Musk, who has taken his spot as court jester.

Duh.
Almost everyone is like that. That is politics since there was politics. This is transactional business and politics that Trump knows extremely well. The odd part was the situation pre-2024, where there was a system to place a thumb on the scales to prevent the resolution of ordinary transactional politics, through a regime of systematic government threats.

I’m not clear what Bannon wants - an altruistic commitment? Somehow?

They are powerful men with their own interests and agendas.
The rulers job is to make deals with them, and enforce them.

Absolutely no different from the case of a medieval monarch and his barons. Total “Game of Thrones”. This is normal, no matter what silly civics textbooks say.

I don’t see how we were better off with the previous status quo than we are with the new pretenses (if that’s what they are).

This Game of Thrones imagery is, pardon me, the stuff of fantasy.

The might of a unified Presidency and Congress is sufficient to rein in the oligarchs. These tech billionaires can provide President Trump with nothing he cannot accomplish without them.

Meanwhile, the idea of “partnership” means that they get to exploit the American people for another four years. And that is what their empires are built on: exploitation. I don’t want them as partners, barons, or vassals.

“This is why Bannon is where he is.”

Yup. He’s heading for his 19th nervous breakdown...or a stroke.

Everything is pretense, always has been, always will be. We are humans and we suck. The trick is to manage this mess of power games such that things continue to run and things get better.

“These tech billionaires can provide President Trump with nothing he cannot accomplish without them.”

But they can give him something very important. They can refrain from financing his enemies.
