Donald Trump's incoming national security advisor Mike Waltz suggested during an interview on ABC's "This Week" that if Ukraine expects "the entire world to be all-in" on supporting them, they should lower their draft age from 26 to 18.
MIKE WALTZ: I will say, the other thing that we're going to need to see is really stabilizing things on the battlefield. And one of the things that we'll be asking of the Ukrainians is they have real manpower issues. Their draft age right now is 26 years old, not 18.
I don't think a lot of people realize that they could generate hundreds of thousands of new soldiers. So when we hear about morale problems, when we hear about issues on the frontline, look, if the Ukrainians have asked the entire world to be all in for democracy, we need them to be all in for democracy. And they certainly have fought bravely. They certainly have taken a very noble and tough stand. But we need to see those manpower shortages addressed. This isn't just about munitions, ammunition, or writing more checks. It's about seeing the frontlines stabilized, so that we can enter into some type of deal.

This suggestion is only useful if objective is use this an excuse to cut military funding off or assure Zelensky is forced out of power.

Nothing is more unseemly than some old geezer on the other side of the earth demanding that 18 year olds be sent to the eastern front to die.

That’s just unbelievable. Of course Russia drafts people at 18 (men I suppose), as would we if we reinstated the draft. And, I googled it, so do Israel and Switzerland, both of which have compulsory military service for all men (and Jewish women in Israel).
Is Ukraine drafting married men? I have to assume not.
This is just astonishing to me. I think we need to stop helping them immediately, they clearly do not take their own defense seriously even when under assault by Russia.
Ultimately, Trump’s calling the shot. We’ll soon see what’s really up. I stand by my assessment for now.

I thought Trump was all about ending the war right away. Last week I heard 6 months. Now it is draft and kill off the younger Uke generation.
What is happening here????
The war is horribly umpopular with the Ukrainian people and Zelensky has to hide behind top tier Brit SAS bodyguards to keep from being smoked by his own people.
All that is keeping Ukraine from open revolt is the tens of billions in cash support that are being used to directly paying the Ukrainians to insulate them from the abject destruction the war has brought to the Ukraine.
Despite the war, US supplied financial welfare aid is allowing the Ukrainian people not in the war zone to pretty much go about their business as usual.
Heck, they are even planning on building huge ski resorts and amusement parts in Western Ukraine while the war rages in the east.
Trump fully understands this dynamic and how Zelensky and the EU are trying to black mail him with the political fallout getting blamed for stopping weapons flow to Ukraine causing the Ukraine to collapse.
Trump is not having any of this.
What he is going to do is cut off the cash welfare payments that are propping up the Ukraine civilian economy and insulating the Ukrainians from the true pain of the conflict.
He is also going to put pressure in the Ukraine to lower the draft age to 18 so all the mommies waving blue and yellow flags cheering the war are going to have to send their babies to get ground to pieces just like all the other moms with older kids have had to.
And the younger kids will not be able to escape because the Zelensky press gangs have their number
These two acts by Trump will be very popular with voters here in the US and will allow him to put maximum pressure on Zelensky without falling into the trap of cutting off weapons and being blamed for being the "guy who lost Ukraine" At the same time they will collapse all support for the already hated Zelensky war effort.
The next step Trump will take is forbid the use of US and NATO long range missiles being shot into Russia.

A draft is slavery, no matter how you slice it. You either need to pay them a wage that will attract the soldiers you need, or convince them to volunteer.
Everyone is capitalist until it’s time to pay soldiers. Then they want to pay wayyyy below market wage and force you to do it against their will.

Yep. That’s what Ukrainian pilot, Denys Davdov, did. The draft dodger now lives in Switerland creating “direct from the front lines” videos of the war in his homeland, from the comfort and safety of his couch.
His YouTube channel has made him hundreds of thousands of dollars from clicks via links posted on forums like this one.
The umcrevmom@aol.com has helped him out quite a bit.
