President-elect Donald Trump received his sentence for his hush money case conviction, but Judge Juan Merchan declined to impose any punishment.
Trump was sentenced Friday morning in New York for his conviction on 34 felony charges in his hush-money case after the Supreme Court refused to block the sentencing, making him the first U.S. president to be convicted and sentenced for a crime to take office.
Trump could have been sentenced to up to four years in prison but instead was delivered a sentence that does not include penalties like jail time or probation in what's called an unconditional discharge. Prosecutors did not oppose the judge's decision, which means Trump will not serve any jail time, probation, or pay any fines for a conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a case that made him the first former or current president to be convicted of a felony.
“Never before has this court been presented with such a unique and remarkable set of circumstances,” said the judge overseeing the case, Juan M. Merchan. “This has been truly an extraordinary case.”
Let ‘em laugh now......we’ll have the last laugh when this BS gets set aside on appeal.
Heard are an attorney for the prosecution, Trump’s attorney, Trump, and then, finally, Judge Merchan.
No real surprises here but, still, an astonishing moment in this country’s history, with PDJT continuing eloquently to (verbally) fight like a stable wolverine in his own defense, and that of his beloved U.S.A.
What if he loses his appeals, all the way up the court system? Then what? I have no faith in our judicial system to do what's proper.
G.W. Law’s Professor Jonathan Turley is holding out little hope for actual sanity or justice to prevail until after Trump’s appellate opportunities within the court system of the state of New York are complete/exhausted, and the U.S. Supreme Court is duly petitioned to review the predictably horrific and unholy result.
My information relies on what I’ve been hearing Andy McCarthy saying.
He states there was so much misconduct on the part of the prosecutors there are no less that 12 legal arguments to be made that any one of which is more than enough to overturn the whole mess.
Once the perp shows them his Antifa card, he’ll be set free.
Oh how I hope Trump unleashes the DOJ on all these idiots. Get some scalps. Destroy the democrats like they tried to destroy him and his supporters.
Patience, young Padawan.
Everything in due time!
Final comeuppance solely via eventual SCOTUS appeal would be most valuable to society at large. Which is Trump’s primary concern.
depends on how Coney -Barrett feels that day
...yeah. True. Good point.
