Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to announce his resignation from office this week, according to a report.

Three sources told the Globe and Mail, a Canadian outlet, on Sunday that Trudeau, 53, could reveal he’s leaving as Liberal Party leader before a critical national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

It was unclear what day he could announce his resignation, but it reportedly could happen as early as Monday, the sources said.

This is an fine example of a parliamentary democracy in action.

Parliaments are made up of parties... The Liberal party is currently in control of Canada with a minority government, propped up since 2019 by the even further left of center National Democratic Party. They have a leader in Just not Ready Trudeau... He’s alienated enough of his own party, that the membership of that party has called on him to step down. Apparently, he’s taking the hint.

After this pissant finally does step down (something he should’ve done much earlier), the Liberal party will still control government. There was going to be a scheduled election in 2025 anyways... And that election may be held a little earlier because of his resignation, but it won’t be because of his resignation. The Liberals and their lefty buddies the NDP still control government.

The good news from all of this... When there finally is an election, the Conservatives (or Tories) will likely form a majority government.

No he won’t... The Liberals will select a new leader... The Liberals will likely lose the next election... Then Polievre will become Prime Minister... And not until then.

The next election must be held by late October. Maybe sooner. Polievre is leading by 20 points in the polls.

"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said he has prorogued Parliament to allow the Liberal Party to hold a leadership contest, and will resign after his successor is chosen.

Trudeau said Gov. Gen. Mary Simon has agreed with his request to prorogue Parliament until March 24." -- CTV News

In Canada the head of state is actually the King who is represented by a Governor General appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada... Mary Simon is the current Governor General and she was appointed by Trudeau. She could've rejected his request and allowed parliament to continue on... But Governor Generals typically do not reject a Prime Minister's request.

The Liberals now have until March 24th to appoint a new leader... If the NDP party continues to support the minority Liberals, the Election will be on October 20th, 2025. If they don't it will likely be in May or June of this year.

From Copilot

To prorogue means to discontinue a session of a legislative body, such as a parliament, without dissolving it. This action is typically taken by a head of state or government leader. When a parliament is prorogued, all pending business, including bills and committee work, is halted until the next session begins12.

For example, in 2020, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prorogued Parliament, which effectively ended the current session and postponed all legislative activities3.

I see a lot of short clips on Youtube of the leader of the Conservatives (don't know how to spell his name...and he appears to be pretty good. Of course when he's speaking in French I can't understand a word he says!

True story...the woman who owns the condo unit above mine grew up in France and met a US serviceman in her 20s,married him,and came here. She told me a story about a trip she made to Quebec with her family and while at a restaurant she was the one talking to the waitress. At one point she couldn't understand something the waitress said and the waitress insulted her for not understanding. So Marie says to her "Well,*I'M* the one who's speaking real French". She said the waitress was really embarrassed.
