Winter Storm Blair is headed to impact much of the central and eastern United States late Sunday.
Blizzard conditions are likely for some areas and ice storms and heavy snow are expected in others, The Weather Channel predicts.
Winter storm warnings have been issued for Washington, D.C., Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
Travel conditions are expected to be dangerous and some icing could be heavy enough that it could knock out power for some.
Freezing rain is falling in parts of Kansas and Missouri, where icing is already an issue on some roads.

Maintain a minimum of 6 feet distance between shovelers.
Right in time for Carter’s funeral events.
What to know...
God is not amused was my first thought.
Take note, Deep State. You’ve been warned.
It doesn’t look that bad on zoom.earth
Enough with this named-storm for every storm, including “winter”.
I’m near Louisville.
We have about 3 inches already and it’s supposed to change to freezing rain in several hours. Could end up with 1/2 inch of ice and 1/2 foot of snow.🥶.
For us that’s a LOT. We had a 9 inch snow in about 2017 but It was mostly melted by noon the next day. This one will not do that, they are forecasting below freezing temps for about a week.
The last really bad winter we had was 2013 (if I remember correctly).
At least they finally named it so it must be series now. Of course the web cams seem to indicate a skating rink in some locales already.
Oh... so now we are naming inland storms too?
Sometimes rain is a special weather statement lol
Family near Lexington. Getting gritty already. Candles and blankets in place.
Who cares?!
This is just as stupid as the media telling us about “blue blood dark red wolf blooming passion great” moon moments and crap like that…ugh…
When did they start naming winter storms the way we name hurricanes?
Oooooh, freezing rain. Ooooh.
Geesh. Pull yer head out. Mebbe talk to natives who have lived in the area for >10 years.
I was born and raised in eastern Mo. Freezing rain was common. Every other year at least.
Oooooh. Blue city TWOTs should not be allowed to write about anything older than their bagel.
I’m in central Indiana west of Indy. The winter of 2013-2014 was our first in this house, and the most snow we’ve encountered since our move. We had over 50” of snow collectively that season, a busted pipe, power outages for days.
We only had two snow shovels to our names to help us through that. Neighbors pitched in when it was coming down faster than we could shovel.
We bought a generator, and the next Christmas, a snow blower. Have used both pretty regularly in the winter.
So far we still have power, but things are just getting started. I hope it stays snow and doesn’t get to ice after that.
Since they’re evidently now naming storms after the ‘Facts of Life’ characters, I suppose the next one will be Winter Storm Tootie.
Isn’t that the truth? The national occupation is to make all of just life a disaster.
I’ so excited. It has a name. Now it can be a real storm.
Yes, of course we are. Naming them makes them scarier. We all need to be terrified, 24/7, and tuned into the government-approved news network in order to survive!
>>> When did they start naming...
That’s what I was asking...
I guess the answer is now.... because it gives the media something to make it more competitive with all the other crap that is going on today.
