PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
The DC officials will have weather alerts, snow alerts, ice alerts cold alerts etc. What that means is the fed offices will be shut down for the 5-10% who actually go to the office. Even with a 30 billion subway system they cannot get around. Meanwhile, with the city shut down, another day off for the work at home crowd with the Carter extravaganza when they will be off again.
We dodged a 3-4” forecast for Omaha but our daughter drove to Maryville, MO where they’re expecting 12” and our son and his fiancee are flying today from Omaha to DC this morning before the expected snowstorm out east.
On the bright side, we’re all probably better off because of it. Do you really want all the government that you pay for?
Give Biden a shovel, tell him to do something useful for a change….
Too bad they have no clue that it’s Winter ,LOL
“ Wonder if they will be able to hold the electoral count?”
If only these grifters had $hundreds of billions with a B like they have been giving another country with a U. Then they could hire tech support to set them up with zoom
But that’s for first world countries
Yup—DC city officials are great at talking.
Now they have to deal with the real world.
Let us see if they are ready for it.
Don’t 85 percent of government employees still working from home?
Snow outside should not be an issue unless there’s a power outage.
Some people like to pretend they’re better than everyone else and blow off anything that doesn’t affect them personally.
And they make fools of themselves by pretending that an inch of light show is the same thing as a foot of frozen slop.
I’ll bet people in Noah’s day blew off the rain Noah was warning them about , too.
Buffalo….
‘m in central Maryland. They’ve been using that worn out excuse of not having enough plows for decades.
Drive up I-95 in a few hours and you’ll see multiple plows staged at ever turnaround.
Cities in general are tough because there’s nowhere to move the snow.
One thing that makes this storm a big deal is the very cold weather behind it.
Ice is going to stay ice for many days.
Snow is not going anywhere for many days.
While folks in the northern tier of the country are used to it this will hit places that experience those conditions very rarely.
I flew into BWI once for a quick in and out business meeting. My plane was the last one in before they closed the airport. It was a sudden snowstorm nobody thought was going to happen. It was already a mess by the time I got to the front doors. My ride was an hour late picking me up and they were getting ready to close the building where the meeting was being held.
I spent about 45 minutes with my client and he had to start home so fortunately he was part owner of the Marriott nearby and booked me in and told me told me to enjoy everything on the house. I had no luggage nada and my sister and BIL who lived in Annapolis could not get to me. So I just stayed in my hotel room enjoyed room service and watched it snow. Got flight back out to Atlanta the next morning.
“Cities in general are tough because there’s nowhere to move the snow.”
Exactly—and DC has incredibly narrow residential streets—and a lot of residents who have nowhere to put their cars except on the street—and many will ignore street parking bans.
“subway system....Carter extravaganza”
The subway system apart from problematic escalators worked well when I lived in the metro DC area over 30 years ago. It was heavily used at the time, unlike the very similar BART in the San Francisco area. My DC friend said operations deteriorated after I moved to Florida.
Paris had a very smooth-running subway system when I visited in 2016.
I understand that all DC Metrorail subway lines run above ground for the majority of their length.
It’s the ice aspect of this that makes it so unusual and likely deadly.
And the size of it is pretty much unprecedented.
I cannot remember any other storm with an ice storm potential that covers this massive amount of area.
Gee, it would be a shame if the weather shut DC down for a week and Congre$$ couldn’t do any damage to this Republic for the week.
Weather coming from due west seems to never meet expectations in the mid-Atlantic. It seems the historically significant snow falls are when the moisture is coming up from the south.
But then again, even a minor snowfall will clear out the grocery store shelves and cause significant travel delays in a third-world region where a significant percentage of drivers have more experience driving ox carts...

The DC area is easily paralyzed by snow. And it doesn’t take much to shut the government down.
