Washington state Democrats appeared to have accidentally emailed their sweeping revenue plans and internal talking points on tax hikes to the entirety of the upper chamber’s members in Olympia, Fox News has learned.
Property tax hikes and a new double-digit tax on firearms are among proposals Washington state Democrats are considering, according to materials originally disseminated to all members by Washington Senate Deputy Floor Leader Noel Frame, D-Seattle, in late December and later obtained by Fox News Digital.
A document titled “2025 Revenue Options” and a PowerPoint presentation describing how to talk to constituents in defense of the plan were included in the messages.
The document lists proposed figures for an 11% tax on ammunition and firearms, reclassifying storage unit rentals as a retail transaction and a lift on the property tax levy lid for certain Washingtonians.
A PowerPoint slide, highlighted by Seattle radio host Jason Rantz, described the “Best way to talk taxes” — with a chart of do’s and don’ts for lawmakers.
Do say: “Pay what they owe” — but Don’t say: “Tax the rich” or “pay their fair share” because “taxes aren’t a punishment,” the graph read.
It also suggested using the terms “funding,” “providing” and “ensuring” when describing the apparent benefits of tax hikes, rather than the term “investing in [X].”
“Avoid centering the tax or talking in vague terms about ‘the economy’ or ‘education.’”
One of the new proposals is that of a “capital assets ownership tax.”
It is described as similar to property taxes, but instead would extend the real estate-type tax to holdings in stocks, bonds and other financial instruments.

Capital assets ownership tax?

It sounds like they intend to go beyond even an unrealized capital gains tax, which is evil enough, and actually tax financial investments every year, regardless of whether they’ve gained or lost value.
They’re nuts, but they’re very dangerous nuts.
Just tell them that they are evil if they don’t support having their pockets picked clean. That’s the usual liberal arguement as to why you should allow yourself to pay more taxes than before.
VERY dangerous nuts indeed.
My daughter recently bought a house in Spokane. She thinks the property taxes are far too high already. Another tax hike? All I can says that her husband was the county Sheriff and she goes to the range the police guys use . She’s the best shot there.

Yes, they are nuts, or actually power crazed. There is no check and balance in the Soviet of Washington to the Democratic Party (the State Supreme Court is elected by the Education and Government unions) except for the initiative process. We saw in the last election where the Democratic Party Attorney General played with the initiative explanatory text so that almost no one really understood what they were voting on.
I live in Spokane. This part of WA is red, but Spokane city is blue. We need to take it back for MAGA - it’s not an impossible task.
Our teachers get paid very high wages and have tons of benefits..that is where my hard earned monet goes.
Yes..they word those initiatives so the av3rage person doesn’t know which way to vote..iows sometimes a yes means no.or a no means yes.
Bill Gates will love this tax on his 52,000 sq ft mansion
I lived in Kent, WA a long time ago. I thought the only reason Coeur D’alene, ID existed was so that normal people had a place to live and commute to Spokane from.
This should only embolden efforts for parts of western Washington to break away and become part of Idaho. If one state were to succeed in changing its borders in this way it would open the floodgates for a national realignment of state borders that would Balkanize the leftists areas of many states. Next domino would be Minnesota where the western half of the state would be joining the Dakotas
I assume you meant Eastern WA but it's a moot point. For a portion of any state to join another state they need "permission" from their state's legislature. Oregon has been talking about it for 50 years. In the past few years a handful of OR counties have voted to do this but they still need the OR legislature to approve. Would be the same in WA state.
True, almost nothing is impossible. When WA state fully implemented all mail-in voting it sure became close to impossible. Go for a history lesson and review the Gregoire/Rossi governors election of 2004.
CDA was great years but it’’s terrible now. The entire state of CA has moved there, city council allows smaller and smaller lots. Old-timers with beautiful homes on gorgeous land are surrounded by tacky neighborhoods. .Really sad.
I think homes directly on the lake are still fine
