I still respect Sonny. He was a good Republican. To my dying day I will always wish it had been Cher who skied into the tree.
F’ Cher... liberal POS.
I never understood her appeal, artistically or physically.
On Letterman’s show, Paul Shaffer used to do an imitation of Cher singing “O, Holy Night.” It was exaggeration of her style and pronunciation and was not flattering to her at all, but to me it sounded pretty much like how most of her stuff sounded.
Shouldn’t it really be known as “Red Fascists’ Musicians Hall Of Fame” these days?
I agree with that, she was a decent actress. Mermaids comes to mind…
I liked Mermaids! - but the man in it (Bob Hoskins?) was very good, too.
Sonny Bono got into the business as a gopher for Phil Spector at Gold Star studios.
Instead of being paid, he took his “money” in studio time where he recorded “I Got You Babe”, a song he wrote.
I was gifted a copy made direct from the raw studio master tape.
At the beginning, Cher’s voice begins in the right channel and is slowly potted to center.
Wow, good story and great story about the gift also.
“Cheradactyl”..
“The term “Rock and Roll” really has been bastardized. Cher was a commercial easy pop “artiste”. Soon Taylor Swift will be in the same “Hall of Fame” too.”
You got it. She has nothing to do with Rock and Roll. “Woke” is at work here, more wimmen ‘n minorities, even if they aren’t rockers.
I have always wondered why any man could beat a woman and then I remember Cher.
I would think that direct copy would be worth some bucks.
A critically acclaimed mastering engineer provided that gift to me...and so many more master tape copies.
Additionally, I provided technical assistance on 6 or so classic & iconic albums re-mastered and he listed me in the mastering credits on those albums.
Finally, he was invited to Abbey Road to finalize a contract to remaster the Beatles catalogue. While there, he received master tape copies of their catalogue as well as numerous unreleased studio demos...and he gifted mt copies if those, too.
Sadly, his record label would lose money on every sale so he & label president had to walk away.
Later, he did remaster McCartney’s first 2 solo albums.
Over time, I received master tape copies of so many - Stones, Beach Boys, Sinatra, NatKingCole, Sonny&Cher, Searchers, RodStewart, EvaCassidy, Doobies, ...and so many more and most were “dry” before the dreaded reverb was added for the commercial release.
All that said, I could never sell those gifts - priceless and sentimental.
Quite a lot of experience there. What do you think of Stones “Out Of Time” remaster/remix? The original was okay, but I beleive Mick and Keith found what they originally heard in their heads. Now it’s an epic, IMO.
