Cases of a wretched stomach bug are surging in parts of the United States this winter, according to government data.
The most recent numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show there were 91 outbreaks of norovirus reported during the week of Dec. 5, up from 69 outbreaks the last week of November.
Numbers from the past few years show a maximum of 65 outbreaks reported during that first week of December.
...
There are about 2,500 norovirus outbreaks reported annually in the United States. The outbreaks can occur throughout the year but are most common from November to April.
Along with with vomiting and diarrhea, common symptoms include nausea, stomach pain, body ache, headache and fever.
How do you get it? Most norovirus outbreaks occur when people who are already infected spread the virus to others by direct means, such as through sharing food or eating utensils. Outbreaks can also be spread through food, water or contaminated surfaces.
How long do people who contract norovirus stay sick? Illness caused by norovirus typically starts suddenly, with symptoms developing 12 to 48 hours following exposure to the virus. Most people get better within one to three days and recover fully.
But with 19 to 21 million illnesses each year in the United States, norovirus nevertheless causes on average 900 deaths and 109,000 hospitalizations annually, mostly among adults aged 65 and older. It also leads to 465,000 emergency department visits, mostly involving young children.

There are lots of intestinal issues affecting Americans at the moment, Listeria and C-Diff among them. I was hospitalized less than 2 weeks ago with C-Diff.
I think I’ve got it.
I know a lot of people who were sick with bad colds and or rona. But the worst is the family all sick with rsv, flu and pneumonia concurrently. Not sure how everyone at their Christmas got ALL of that crap at once. I was wondering if it was the new “plan”.
the main thing to know is they’re all lab made and released in time for Trump’s inauguration in an effort to distract and derail any and all efforts to curtail the deep state
Then you're already halfway through the whole event. And still sitting at your computer! We 'enjoyed' it years ago in Germany courtesy of a Turkish Doner joint, and the while lasted about two days.
My son’s friend has e coli.
Bad sanitary habits….especially from our “newcomers”!

Norovirus. Norovirus is the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis. With norovirus, you can be contagious before you feel ill. Symptoms usually appear within 1 to 2 days being exposed to the virus.
Most people with norovirus feel better a day or two after their symptoms begin. But they’re contagious for a few days after they recover. The virus can stay in the stool for two weeks or more after recovery.
Children should stay home from school or child care for at least two days after the last time they vomit or have diarrhea.
Norovirus is in the category of most contagious virus you can get. It only takes ONE particle to make someone sick. A few years ago the virus ran through my daughter’s household... 10 days later, after they recovered mind you, we ate Christmas dinner over there and yes ended up sick. It can live on surfaces and in someone’s breath (if I remember rightly) for up to two weeks after they recover. For a while there I was getting it every single year and most of that time I would end up in the emergency room to receive Zofran because I just couldn’t stop puking. I avoid this bug the very best I can including from November through March will not eat anything from a restaurant that human hands would handle. It’s a crappy way to live but I hate these viruses with a passion.
An outbreak isn’t a single case, friend.
"A norovirus outbreak is defined as: An occurrence of two or more similar illnesses resulting from a common exposure that is either suspected or laboratory-confirmed to be caused by norovirus."
"...norovirus nevertheless causes on average 900 deaths and 109,000 hospitalizations annually, mostly among adults aged 65 and older. It also leads to 465,000 emergency department visits, mostly involving young children."
Norovirus cases are surging in parts of the US, CDC data shows AP, 28 December 2024.
900 deaths in our population is statistically minuscule. Perhaps the 109 thousand hospitalizations? Statistically, all but 900 recover. How about the 465,000 emergency department visits? Still only 900 deaths.
What's the usual cure for someone? Two or so days, and wait.
But the media is in full voice in this last week. "Back in full force." "Surging."
The Friday prior to Christmas five of the people in my office went to the restaurant next door. Four of the five had it coming out both ends Saturday and Sunday. It was about a 24 hour delay. So, probably not food poisoning. Plus, they all ate/drank different things.
About fifteen years ago my company had a party at the local country club on a Saturday night. Myself and literally half the attendees were sick Monday morning. I missed two days of work. The local health department shut the place down. They cleaned it for two days. The interesting thing was at our table of eight all the men got sick. All the wives were fine.
Sounds easy enough to control.
Be clean and avoid eating in public settings for a while.
The left has taken to hyperventilating over every little viral illness as if it’s the end of the world and nobody should ever get sick.
And yet, somehow the human race has survived.
Visited a very, very sick neighbor yesterday - looked like death warmed over, said he’d been flat on his back in bed, in utter misery for eight days and couldn’t eat. Tested negative for COVID. I told him to go to urgent care immediately but he refused. I kept my distance.
The medical community and government needs to identify which type of viruses are prevalent, RSV, COVID, norovirus, etc. - and recommend treatment.
Yep.
I got norovirus after returning from a cruise - my cousin and I both got it, she ended up hospitalized, my husband said he should have taken me to the hospital. I thought my entire body was turning inside and out.
I wasn’t sure if I got it on the cruise or when we ate at the Vancouver airport on our way home.
Visited my chiropractor about six weeks later because I still felt unwell - she said my ribs were dislocated from vomiting. Once she put them back into place, I felt 100% better and all other symptoms disappeared.
You don’t want this.
I take my clue from the doctors in my family - wash your hands constantly.
It’s the usual cold and flu season. It’s Climate change.
And climate change is killing the trees by making their leaves fall off.
Send Al Bore and little Gretchen money and they’ll make it stop until next year.
