GT stands for Gran Turismo, which is an Italian word that means wither great touring or grand touring, which indicates luxury driving experience vehicle..
I get it, you do not find it attractive, but my XLR was fun to drive. And putting the hardtop down that folded up and placed itself into the trunk was a nice touch too. People would watch that with amazement, and then inquire what kind of car is that, I got to get one of those.
Thus, the development of the saying; Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. 🙂👍
If I were the designer, I would tend to fashion the XLR more along the lines of an Eldorado Biarritz 1957 1958 (had 4 headlights instead of 2 on the 1957 model year) body style, with a more aerodynamic front to reduce drag, in a 2-door 2-seat configuration, with modern chassis and suspension. It's the backend of that car that I would keep that styling more true to the 1957 version.
You have the gist of it, but GT also implies High Speed touring.
An early epitome would be the “Blue Train Bentley”.
A true Sports Car does not have cup holders, power seats, cruise control, etc. LOL!
Yes, true sports cars ended in the late 60’s as Gov. Org. began meddling and Americans got lazy/spoiled.
Glad I still have a couple!
