It is NOT the job of a victim, or for that matter a cop, to determine if a gun is real when it is pointed at them. So, to those baby mama’s now getting acting lessons for local TV stations, you should have explained something that simple to your boys.
The attempted armed robbery occurred in leftist (”catch and release”) Houston, where young criminals, including the recovering wounded, will likely continue their pattern of attempting armed robberies (or worse) until someone with better aim terminates their habit.

I’m not sure. I think the Texas law protects also protects legal gun owners from civil, as well as criminal ‘prosecution’, so somehow the Ambulance Chaser will have to convince a jury that the victim was looking for trouble, rather than the ‘youths’ being the ones looking for trouble. That is a tough thing to prove and the jury pool there, based on what I’ve heard, is far from diverse.
So, 5% chance of winning anything substantial, in my opinion, of course.
When I was in the infantry, I volunteered to carry the M60 machinegun. Along with that, I was also assigned a .45 as a personal (close-in) weapon of last resort.
I got tired of cleaning two weapons after each field exercise, so I went out and purchased a non-functioning replica to carry to the field instead. Looked identical to the real thing and I was never caught, nor challenged, while carrying it. Even in broad daylight, unless you were actually handling it, you could not tell that the replica was not the real thing.
When I was promoted to Sergeant E-5 and had to give up carrying The Hog, I "passed it along" to the next gunner. As far as I know, 50 years later, it's still being carried by the Company C, 2d Platoon, machinegunner.

Even Walmart sells CO2 pistols that are exact copies of full size 1911 pistols. And Shirley, “teens” would never think of breaking off the plastic orange tip on toy guns.
