A restaurant in Norman organized a bicycle giveaway event for families in need ahead of Christmas.

Coaches Corner, owned by former University of Oklahoma football players Corey Wilson and Maylon Wesley, handed out 100 bicycles as a line stretched around the building.

"We did it," said Wilson. "No one thought we'd be able to do it but look at what we accomplished."

Kids and parents picked out whichever bicycle they wanted from the large selection until every last one was gone

I know you have to look at the video at the link, but there were many $50,000 SUV's picking up free bikes.

Flame away.

My first thought as well. Each year, several businesses give away free school bags with supplies - and the line of Escalades, Beemers etc filing into the parking is disgusting.

Partly why I am wary of organized charities as opposed to one on one charitable giving. I don’t preclude giving to organizations completely but I’m wary.

“We did it,” said Wilson. “No one thought we’d be able to do it but look at what we accomplished.”

and there it is, the accomplishment, the “feel good” but nothing was really changed.

Helping people should not be entered into lightly.

“Why do you hate me, I never tried to help you” is a quote I often observe to be true.

Not saying one should not help people but go in with eyes wide open.

I donate to dog charities. Doubt a lot of beemers getting advantage there.

Corporate charity is always open to exploitation. Individual charity is always the best. Everyone knows someone that is in need. Individuals can come together collectively and be directly charitable.

At my old house there was a free food pantry at the church across the street.
Once a week i’d see the Lexus, New Ford F-150’s, BMW show up for their free food.
