I keep getting emails with Nextdoor info. It looks like Twitter pretty much and it has my neighborhood correct but I wondered if there were any problems with it or if it might be handy to use.
It’s a bunch of gossipy Karens, acting like an online homeowners association. I’d steer clear.
It is best to use your browser instead of an app, as apps gather a lot more information from your phone than a phone browser provides those websites.
As for Nextdoor, I get notices a neighbor wants me to join, and I have always ignored those. The site kicks conservatives off.
Seems ok but I keep getting notifications from places outside my neighborhood and even different cities. I had to go through and disable every notification I could find or it gets spammy.
It’s a great app here in DC if you want to see how TDS destroys sanity. You can watch in real time as people deny that how they voted had anything to do with rising crime rates. Prch thieves are recorded in all their glory and insouciance with not a comprehension as to how the 96% approved DC establishment is the establishment they keep voting for. It’s like watching a bunch of lab rats run the maze of their sorry existence watching lemmings run off of cliffs and not comprehending the lemmingness of their own existence.
We have localized facebook pages.
I would try it and if you find less useful than you thought, dump it.
The quality from such an app will depend on the quality of the mods.
Yes, do use the browser version.
That’s pretty apt!
Its a leftist Karen site that deletes conservative posts regularly and scolds anyone who does not toe the lefty line.
We avoid it completely after my wife’s short stint on it.
Nextdoor is Karen central.
Couple of years back, I was bow hunting on my property in suburban Montgomery County Maryland. Neighbors fatten up the deer for me by leaving out YUGE piles of sweet corn, pumpkins, well-tended Azalea bushes, etc. I got major flak from the biddies on that site for this and a few visits from “animal control” and the PoPo. All perfectly legal. I advised that it was not I that was “baiting” the deer, but he neighbors and the animal control folks asked the Karens to stop feeding the wildlife.
Second, my daughter took my service dog, an 88 lb GSD out for a walk in a local park and someone’s squirrel (I trained Hudson with “NO SQUIRREL” when he’d see one of these little foo-foo doglets like a pug, yorkie or chihuahua) on a 20 foot retractable leash came around a corner and Hudson grabbed the yorkie thing putting four small puncture wounds into it. THEN the owners came around the corner of the trail and all kindsa crap started.
For some reason - two adults vs. my younger adult daughter’s word against theirs, we got a visit from the PoPo, I paid out $400 to an emergency vet for XRays and antibiotics for the squirrel doglet and for weeks on end the Karens on the Nextdoor app whined and complained about my dog, big dogs in general, our house got egged, it was all kinds of fun.
Train my dog? Yes, he was trained for protection. He was on a two foot lead with a “Service Dog Harness” and a potentially dangerous dog rushed him and my daughter. He did pretty much what I would expect of him.
“and it has my neighborhood correct”
I would right away be asking how they know this. I would take it as a violation of my privacy and be offended that they know my location already. That means they have been tapping information that I did not approve of.
We used it for a short time after finding a stray dog in the subdivision. But signing up really opens a door of all kinds of crap — gossipy Karens, power-hungry HOA President wannabes. Plus, even though we defined an area, we got stuff from 50 miles away.
My sister has used it for some things successfully. So maybe it’s a matter of doing a deep dive into settings or something.
Have found several good handymen through Nextdoor and avoided some with bad reviews. Discussions concerning our HOA meetings and issues for consideration have been good as well. Basically it’s like any paper: read things of interest to you and ignore the rest.
won’t even let me look at it without signing in
Just don’t post anything positive about President Trump, abortion, conservative thoughts or illegals and you’ll be fine
Full of libs in my town.
I left it waaay behind
I use it to keep up on things happening nearby. I never post, I just read.
It’s full of lefties but it serves a purpose for local info to a degree. It just know that if you say anything they don’t agree with they’ll report you
I also find its filled with gossipy Karens.
Tried it for 4 months and dropped it.
They will start bombarding you with scam. Your email address will go to at least seven different lists. Thne it will take you a month to unsubscribe or label them as spam.
