No matter how aggressive they are with the thermostat at 5800 Airline Drive, the New Orleans Saints can't do much to prepare for the cold weather conditions in Green Bay this week.
Or can they?
"This morning, (quarterbacks coach Andrew) Janocko took us into the cafeteria freezer where it was like 10 degrees," quarterback Spencer Rattler said. "We're just going through the whole script in there. Just doing that helped a lot. Hopefully it's not 10 degrees (in Green Bay), but we'll be ready."
It's a novel concept, but it remains to be seen how much it actually helps — if at all.
Temperatures are expected to be in the 20s at kickoff Monday night. There's also some snow in the forecast for the Green Bay area.
New Orleans has tried to prepare as well as it can for the conditions this week. The Saints have had their players practice with wet footballs and footballs that have been sitting in a freezer for a few hours. They've taken practice outside and they've emphasized the importance of wearing the proper cleats.

In 20° weather the NFL better make sure that players are protected from frostbite on their fingers. There are gonna be a lot of drop passes in that game because cold fingers and a frozen ball will be a factor.
In the 20s?
How in the hell they gonna survive that!
Lol!
I saw the headline, my first thought was that the coach was literally placing his team members into a deep freezer for X amount of minutes, as a conditioning method. This way, of using frozen or slippery balls, seems more practical, less problematic.
Singular?
Just the left one....
Too cold for me to watch in person.
Very good idea, coach...
Well, that’s where the Carolina Panthers has an advantage if they would only use it: Beech Mountain, North Carolina is a mile high (Denver thin air) and the temperature at Beech Ski Resort right now is a balmy 17 degrees. Should at least be their summer camp. Heck, it may help them win a few games.
Perhaps some emphasis on the proper clothes might be in order as well.
