18 staff members arrested at Virginia nursing home. This isn’t the first time VDH investigated.

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — The Virginia Department of Health confirmed its Office of Licensure and Certification is conducting an investigation into Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Colonial Heights.

"Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, VDH cannot comment further on this matter at this time,” Maria Reppas, a spokeswoman for VDH, said.

CBS 6 has reported Colonial Heights police arrested multiple employees at the Colonial Heights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Wednesday morning, charging them with crimes ranging from abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults to falsifying patient records.

The arrests came after police say a 74-year-old patient was hospitalized and ultimately died due to inadequate care received at the facility.

This is not the first time CBS 6 has reported on issues with the facility.

InJuly 2024, we told you VDH cited the facility for violating federal rules after our 2023 investigation into an attack on a social worker by a resident.

After that report, VDH said they visited the facility in August 2024 to investigate nine different complaints

Our May 2023 investigation focused on how the nursing home handled the case of Cassie Ortiz, a social worker who was assaulted by a patient at the facility.

I remember Colonial Heights, a subdivision in or near Petersburg. It was segregated, back in 1961 or ‘62.

I was wondering why Victor Davis Hanson was investigating a nursing home.

We could get rid of nursing homes and use Elon’s robots for in home care instead of these foul places. Maybe make them look less scary.

Nothing can be worse than some of these depressing hellholes.

Don’t forget to check for involvement in election fraud. A typical way they would do it is first vote democrat on each resident’s ballot then give them a cookie.

In fact, there’s an obvious short supply of respect these days, that is for anyone but themselves.

Many nursing homes get a one-time lump sum payment per elderly disabled patient. The sooner they can get rid of their problem or costly or otherwise unwanted patients, the sooner they can receive another lump-sum payment.

Incentive to euthanize, essentially.

Happened to my mother in Massachusetts. They waited until her pneumonia was beyond treatment to send her to the hospital for treatment, where she passed away 30 minutes after admission.

Demonic people.

If the people abusing the elderly got some “splashback” from the families of the elderly then the abuse would stop or it would be extinguished. Just sayin.

I’ve always been told to visit your loved ones in nursing homes often. The more you do and on odd hours it keeps staff on their toes. Also prevents a lot of abuse from happening. They know you are watching or this is what I was told. Seems this is true.
