Newsweek ^ | Dec 21, 2024 | James Brizuela

The Washington Commanders are one of the most storied teams in the NFL. After being started as the Boston Braves in 1932. Following a big move to Washington D.C., the team would change to the Washington Redskins in 1937.

The Redskins would play at RFK Stadium from 1961-96, and then move to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland — where they remained until now. However, after another name change that led to the Washington Commanders moniker, the team might finally move back to their namesake.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, the RFK Stadium Bill was quietly passed by the senate. This bill will lead to the renovation of RFK Stadium, which can be come the new home of the Commanders following their lease ending in 2027.

According to A.J. Perez, "BREAKING: D.C. will soon be an option for the next Washington Commanders stadum in a shocking early morning twist in the Senate. The RFK Stadium bill passed by unanimous consent—meaning all 100 Senators were on board— hours after it was left out of the continuing resolution."

Seeing how the surveys of 18-29yo people in America are 50-50 about the Altoona McDonalds guy I would venture that the next few decades might be as good for the Upper and Ruling classes in America as the early 1790s were for the French Aristocrats. Could you imagine what Chat GPT 6 in 5 years might recommend for those who gave us this fiscal disaster? I can’t read 1547 pages in an hour. But a good MLOps process to train a LLM for some AI apps can. I abhor violence. But this younger generation doesn’t?

I thought this was removed from CR?

Guess the story now is that the stadium funding was removed from the House CR and now has been added to by the Senate?

This was NOT in the bill passed by the Senate and the House yesterday. It is not in it at all. This news article was written pre-supposing the “subsidy” would be passed in the PORK bill. It didn’t. But== the needles add on social security benefit to fedgov employees (who have a FAT pension and in no need of addition)... was in the bill. 200K retirees to further drain the Social Security Trust Fund- a demonrat payoff to what they did not deliver- a demonrat presentdent.

Why is funding the stadium an issue for the senate?

Shouldn’t NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL, etc. stadia be a local funding and management issue?

Apparently Schumer pushed it across the finish line. It had already passed the House.

We escaped years ago from WDC after “living” there for 28 years. That is THE best memory.

I worked in WDC for 45 years, and even had an apartment or two near the zoo (used to wake up to the sound of baboons wanting breakfast!), while going home to the Eastern Shore of Maryland on the weekends, so I wasn’t a resident, resident. My real home was Eastern Shore. But I loved the history of the city and was always proud of working there, and never quite got over the awe of the famous buildings. That having been said, I finally gave up my last apartment after a few months because of the drug busts that were constantly occurring under my window (I was in a relatively decent area). The City also had become very dangerous by the time I retired — one murder of an innocent jogger happening just outide my office building. I wouldn’t go back there now, and I don’t even encourage tourists to come at this time. Every corner has five or six homeless or panhandlers, the streets are dirty, the crime is high. But it is such a shame. I love the city and am sorry about what has happened to it.
