That describes 'em so well
I knew one that would eat socks! and then the owner would have a tough time cutting it out when it came out the other end!!
Hahaha...my dog had an absolute fixation with athletic socks, and the less-washed, the better! (and that was at a time where I was using a large number of athletic socks!)
I remember I was washing clothes and she picked up a few socks...amused, I gave her another. And another. Pretty soon, she must have had a dozen socks in her mouth, sticking out at every angle, and the happiest look on her face!
They sure like picking things up with their mouths...we were decorating the Christmas tree one time, and one of the large, old fashioned glass ornaments fell onto the carpet, and she picked it up in her mouth!
In a panic, seeing a huge Veterinary bill in my future, I cooed at her to stay still and tried gently to get her to relinquish it without smashing it into small shards.
Another time, my mom gave her a raw egg, and she proudly paraded around with it in her mouth!
Funny. They are so good natured, but there are outliers. Some years ago, I was walking in between a row of cars in a parking lot, and as I passed a car, there was an older Golden looking balefully as I passed by in the narrow space. Just as I passed and the instant I saw it and thought “Ah! A lovely Golden!” the dog lunged at me, teeth bared in a hostile grimace, incisors showing prominently.
I have to tell you...that nearly made me crap myself, it was so close and unexpected, and it also provoked an unsolicited anger in me that was so foreign to any Goldens I had ever seen!
