Donald Trump ‘eyes deal’ to save failing DC Waldorf-Astoria, turn it back into Trump International Hotel

President-elect Donald Trump is weighing a bid to save the failing Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington, DC – and rebrand it once more as a Trump International Hotel, The Post has learned.

Three sources familiar with the situation said that the incoming commander-in-chief’s company, the Trump Organization, is weighing options that include a licensing deal or even possibly buying back the lease on the government-owned, 125-year-old Old Post Office building.

“Our family has saved the hotel once. If asked, we would save it again,” Eric Trump told The Post in an exclusive interview.

The luxury lodge at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave. – just a few blocks away from the White House – became a magnet for GOP insiders, DC lobbyists, and fundraisers after Trump opened the hotel in 2016.

Republican operatives spent $266K there in its first six months alone, according to FEC data.

But visitor numbers dropped off once Hilton, which manages the Waldorf brand, took it over and the real estate mogul ended ties with the hotel, according to an insider.

It is still “to be determined” whether the Trump Organization would want to wrestle back full control of the hotel by buying back the lease it sold in 2022 or agree to a licensing deal, the source said.

Sources close to the property said the president-elect is eyeing a possible hospitality investment in the DC area.

My uncle was born 1939. He grew up where the Waldorf was the pinnacle of success. When he made it big the first place he stayed was the Waldorf.

My wife and I had lunch about 8 years ago at Fogo de Chao, across the street from the hotel. It was still Trump International back then and we walked around the main area for awhile. Incredible gorgeous and just a beautiful site.

We had a cocktail party there last Halloween to celebrate the legacy of Robert E. Stripling, a noted hunter of Russian spies who was the chief investigator of the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC).

I guarantee the left will find something to prosecute Donald Trump over, in this deal.

The old post office is beautiful. I was glad when Trump fixed it up. We went to the hotel a few times for lunch. I heard Trump supporters ate there on a regular basis.

DC is a ghost town now.

Trump knows he'll need a MAGA friendly place in DC.

Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington, DC

If you want to stay at the Waldorf-Washington, you gotta go to Queens.

How can Trump buy it, while he is president?

“Republican operatives spent $266K there in its first six months alone,…”

See how they report it as if it’s a lot of money? That figure over six months wouldn’t cover the electric bill.

Is Trump buying this just to troll the left? This Trump hotel was one of their favorite avenues of attack against him.

We stayed there one New Years Eve when it was owned by Trump. I was very impressed by how well run it was. We decided to go to a party early in the evening and asked the doorman to fetch us a cab. "Oh no, you won't need a cab. Our guests never need a cab. Where do you want to go; I'll call our limo and have you taken there." And he did.

Later, we came back to the hotel after midnight to spend some time in it's beautiful atrium, and, as you might imagine, most people still up after the ball dropped had a bit to drink. There were a bunch of young women in beautiful gowns nearby who were rapidly getting into an argument. When one took off her high heel and began using it as a hammer to attack her companions, faster than I could blink, a cloud of huge, athletic military type security agents came out of nowhere and stopped it. I had not even seen them before and had no clue where they came from. Again, I was impressed.

One of the best dinners in my life was at Trump’s DC hotel back in 2018. Everything was exceptional.

My son wanted to go to DC for his senior graduation trip. We spent 5 days there and saw everything except the White House. There was a mix up in the email where we had to submit info to be vetted, and by the time we got it straightened out the window had passed.

Since Elon is trying to buy near Mar a Lago perhaps the Donald will make the first move out of DC by moving the White House to Florida. He is hated by 94%of the DC population anyway between minorities, democrats, and those who are their for the grift there isn’t room for patriots who just want to do the right thing.
