JMO, LBJ would have been electorally crushed by Nixon, but at least the democrats back in 68, did have a process to pick the new nominee, unlike Kamala who swept in with no primary or caucus votes.
Discuss and flame away.

Johnson drank two fifths of Cutty Sark scotch whiskey every day. That’s what killed him.

I don’t think the RATS were really thinking about America when they hired the Jamaican Hoodoo to be their nominee. They were thinking about “America’s first “woman of color” president for their commie lib “history” books. I don’t have a clue what they had for a Plan B for large scale emergencies or worse yet, a World War III. The numbskull would be in the White House hunkered down under her bed.

Looks like more nevertrumper BS -- oblique and implied -- directed at DJT by the partisans media shills at The Atlantic.
Physically, LBJ was less attractive than Brezhnev and DeGaulle. :^) He'd had a health scare in the 1950s, if memory serves. But he dropped out of the 1968 campaign after "Clean Gene" McCarthy had a strong showing in the NH primary, which led to RFK (Sr) to enter the race. The left never quite got over the 1968 presidential campaign.

Not likely. Since this article was written in 1973.

He had never doubted that he could have won the 1968 election against Richard Nixon if he had chosen to run for another term. No, I think he knew he'd be crushed as much or more than Kamala Harris and that's why he withdrew.

Thanks, then again, it depends on how long it’s been up.

Couldn’t he afford anything better than that?

Johnson smoked like a chimney and slept very little. He might have lived longer if he smoked less and slept more.

I think it was said that he could “handle two fifths of Cutty Sark scotch whiskey in a day”, supposedly he had staff water down his whiskey so it looked like he was drinking as much as he wanted his guests to, so that he could be thought as vulnerable as them.
“Always seeking to wield the levers of power to his advantage, the Machiavellian Johnson while Senate majority leader instructed staff to make his scotch and soda significantly weaker than his guest’s so that he could keep a clearer head.”

Johnson (LBJ) appears to have been a sociopath.
He did intense harm to the United States of America.
