The family of a nine-year-old girl who was born without her left arm has been told a new prosthetic is 'not medically necessary' by their insurance company.
Remy Bateman, from Utah, has lived her whole life with the use of just one arm 'due to an amniotic band in the womb' caused her to lose the limb at birth, according to her mother Jami Batemen.
The school girl has always relied on prosthetics, but after recently outgrowing them, her family set their sights on upgrading her to a robotic arm.
They traveled to Colorado where Remy got to test out the Hero Arm, quickly feeling a sense of joy because of how functional it made her.
But her happiness was torn away when Select Health sent a denial letter to her mother, stating the new prosthetic is 'not medically necessary.'
Jami immediately appealed the company's decision as she was left confused why they refused to cover the costs.
'They’ve approved three prosthetics before in her lifetime, so I can’t figure out why they refuse to deny this one,' Jami told KUTV.
Despite sending an appeal letter back to Select Health, Jami said she yet again received a letter denying coverage for Remy's new arm, which costs $24,000 without insurance.
During their time in Colorado, Jami said her daughter was visibly thriving wearing the robotic arm.
'This is 100 percent needed,' her mother said, adding that they saw with their own eyes what their daughter is capable of with the advanced prosthetic.
'We have seen what she can do being over in Colorado for three days.

She’s probably a white girl.
It matters not what the insurance company promised in small print, or what the child actually needs to live a productive life. Insurance companies can renege on any contract, and bureaucrats are allowed to define the word “need” in any manner they wish.
It is just the same as the victims of Hurricane Helene. It doesn’t matter what FEMA promises it will do in the case of disaster. Nor does it matter how much money Congress allocates for disaster relief. It only matters what they say they are now obligated to do now. They get to decide how the agency will live up to its obligations.
What will happen is what has always happened in our nation. Generous Americans will step up and donate the funds for the child’s prosthetic arm. They will do it again in a few years when she needs another one. That’s just what we do.
Our current health care system with regards to health insurance needs to be destroyed. Not to be replaced with “free” socialized health care, but to be replaced with the type of catastrophic health insurance most people had in the past. Also, most government regulations in regards to health insurance need to be canceled and the ACA law repealed. The ACA has been a disaster from day one. Just as most of us predicted.
They are not being denied a prosthetic .
Momma is demanding because she is special and said her kids feels better with it on .

rick allen, the drummer for def leppard figured out a way to continue playing the drums with one arm while not playing the victim...
I would like to eliminate coverage for sex transfers and expensive treatments for sexual deviancy.
And this is why health insurance CEO’s get shot.
Not justifying the shooting in the least, but when stuff like this happens, some people just crack.
Actually, reading further I see the reason for the denial.
They didn’t deny her need just the high end expensive one.
When she’s done growing, maybe it could be justified, plus there’s a good chance it will come down in price, but since she’s still growing and will outgrow it soon, I agree with no.
It’s not like you could put the used one on eBay or garage sale it.
They are going to be high, regardless. There will always be an excuse to raise premiums.
Every state in the nation requires some prosthetic coverage.
I’m going to need some additional details before I join the mob blaming the insurance company.
