When did it ever?
Its not a fair comparison to the past at all.
In the past colleges didn’t offer degrees in so many worthless things. People in the past were not going to pay hard earned money for a weird-@ss degree no business would take seriously.

Old joke. Don’t know if it really happened or not.
1940: A group of recruits is lined up before a sergeant.
Sergeant: Who here has a college degree?
One recruit raises his hand.
Sergeant: Fall out for officer candidate school.
2010: A group of recruits is lined up before a sergeant.
Sergeant: Who here has a college degree?
Three recruits raise their hands.
Sergeant: Grab those shovels. You men dig the first ditch.
This is not news.
You want to make some good money nowdays? Learn a trade! Electricians and plumbers make $130/hr. Even gardeners make $50/hr.

I work with my hands, waking up at 4 in the morning and getting home at around 8 pm. It is grueling, but I literally make more than anyone I know with the exception of one friend who is literally a brain surgeon. I used to be ashamed, now I keep what I earn to myself so I don’t depress anyone.
Left wing Parents: But that Fighting Against Toxic Masculinity and Contours of Post-Modern Feminism seemed like good majors and worth the tens of thousands in tuition. And the neighbor kid was about to become a DEI Executive intern for a university. Will he have to give that up?

Struggling to find jobs. Well, duh. College degrees don’t guarantee work skills. No one will hire DEI brainwashed students. Many degrees have no money producing future. Very few can hire during inflationary times.
No sympathy here. College student bought the lie about modern day college education. Plus most who could vote, voted for Biden/Harris....may they be bypassed by DEI and illegal alien hires...
Why should it? Degrees are bought and paid for these days... Not earned through academic rigors.
Of course it doesn’t. 50 years ago you stood out if you had a college degree. That’s not so anymore. A much higher percentage of people have them and there are plenty who get them in BS majors now....ie various “studies” programs, sociology, etc etc that do nothing to teach people even remotely relevant job skills.
What did we think was going to happen when we sent all of our high paying jobs out of the country?
So many Worthless degrees in fake or worthless subjects from communist/nazi/ leftist bullkrap indoctrination camps — and, not surprisingly, graduates either negative work ethics, zero job skills, and poisonous entitlement type attitudes.
They just pollute the work place. We wouldn’t hire them or even let them in to visit.
(There are still some schools that do a good job — outside of the Ivy League and sone of the big state colleges.)
Kids are encouraged to got to college from the get go. There should be a bigger shift toward trade craft.
“Getting a college degree doesn’t guarantee a good job like it used to”
...no, but they sure do give your brain a thorough scrubbing!!
Following graduation, he enrolled in the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Ohio. It's a full time, 9 month training program that cost him $35,000.
Following graduation, the job offers came pouring in. He's only been out for about 2 1/2 years and he's already earning about $85k a year and has almost paid off his loan.
I don’t want someone with a college degree unless it is for a STEM job. And even with that, I select people based on their willingness to go above and beyond by being innovative and having the ability to create value for the organization.
Many years ago there were far fewer degrees because the degrees were for jobs that needed them.
Now there’s degrees for everything you can think of that have absolutely no corresponding job but you can say “I have a degree” so that Master’s Degree in gender studies will help you find a job working from home in your parents basement.
These days, getting a diploma no longer means you learned anything useful - or can even read and write.
