It had been so long since my last visit that I'd never even set up a bookmark for his channel.
Where’s my hoverboard?
I know nothing about any of them.
The more gadgets, the more time spending maintaining them.
I just want stuff that works and stays working. I got back from a trip this afternoon and my Roku box won’t work. It say not enough memory to load apps, but they are already on the box and were working fine the past six years.
I’ve noticed that a couple of times from the Ultra, then it seems to straighten itself out. Maybe a wobbly connector? But it only got used once, when I put the card in it. So probably a software update glitch.
Tech is like any other useful complex product, **** wears out. With electronics, they will over a long period of time get enough microscopic wear that they will start to go all poopy and stuff, but generally there isn’t any suspense — they work right out of the box, or they don’t. :^)
Good stuff...
I’ve got an Ultra, too. I have it hidden away so I need to get the ladder out tomorrow to reboot it. It’s the first time it’s gone wonky on me. The Roku products have all been very stable and reliable.
I like his vids, and his output is pretty large.
That’s odd- mine crashed yesterday-the remote control wouldn’t do anything, and the screen was gibberish. I checked the charge on the battery, it was good. So then I unplugged the the power cord and removed the chip from the back, reinserted it, and it still didn’t work.
I then unplugged it again, let it sit for a minute, plugged it back in, turned the tv off and back on, and TA-DAAA, it’s working again. I have the ROKU Ultra.
I don’t know how these things work, I just push the buttons.
Hope this helps.
Interesting...maybe it’s a Roku server glitch. I’ll unplug and reboot it tomorrow.
Thanks.
The last time that I had this type of experience there was a bitcoin mining virus going around on AppleTVs. I do not see anything like that currently being reported for Roku boxes but people sometimes forget that these are tiny computers and they can experience similar maladies.
FWIW I recently purchased an ONN (Walmart’s electronics house brand) tablet for $179. 6gb ram and 128 GB hard drive. It’s a big improvement over my Samsung tablet that was just... ok. very slow and constantly ran out of hard drive memory for saving files. This is my 2024 gadget of the year:-) !!
Thanks! I looked at some of those, and found reviews from another prolific ‘everyday electronics’ YT channel, ETA Prime. ONN is one of the brands carried at Walmart, and I’ve used their charging cables for a long while. They also made flatscreens with the Roku stuff built in. Walmart bought Vizio a while back, which as far as I remember has never used built-in Roku.
