Former President Barack Obama delivered the keynote address at the 2024 Obama Democracy Forum on Thursday night in Chicago. This year’s theme was “pluralism.”
He studiously avoided saying the name of the president-elect, but the presence of Donald Trump hung over the whole event like a particularly grotesque balloon at a Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.
Obama’s characteristic rhetorical virtues were on full display. He was a constitutional law professor before he was a politician, and he still sounds like one. At the same time, he was a once-in-a-generation talent as a political communicator. He knows how to convey a complex set of ideas in a digestible and appealing way.
But there was a massive gaping hole at the center of his speech. He still doesn’t understand why his eight years in power culminated in the rise of Trump. Despite his considerable talents, his brand of centrist liberalism is fundamentally inadequate to the historical moment in which he now finds himself. And his speech in Chicago offered nothing but more of the same.
In Obama's telling of the story of America’s experiment in political pluralism, the system worked pretty smoothly in the 20th century, but all wasn’t well beneath the surface.

He was a standard issue community organizer (agitator)/poverty pimp, and maybe gave a few lectures under the guise of constitutional law but in reality had no relation to it. A thorough fraud.
I just remember the 1000 plus seats in all facets of gubmint demorats had and were lost in his 8 years in office. Apparently, a lot of voters didn’t buy into his crap either.

Good grief. Obama isn’t a centrist. He’s a socialist whose strategy is incrementalism. He can come across as centrist at times because he’s disciplined and plays the long game. But to believe he’s a centrist requires naiveté about his background and a lack of discernment about his thinking.
obama loves hearing himself talk. The rest of the world is tired of hearing the pos.
Obama succeeded in radicalizing the Left and the Dems, but has failed in his quest to bring down America and extinguish America’s Free Constitutional Republic.
He was a constitutional law professor who ignored and ravaged the Constitution as President in his Leftist thirst for worldwide totalitarian gov’t.
Patriots and the Right have a long way to go to.
Our mission which we MUST accept, is to fully recover our Free Constitutional Republic by:
1) abolishing the 80%+ $3+ trillion unconstitutional portion of the federal gov’t,
2) reinstating the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land over the feds (U.S. Const., Art IV, Cl.2) thus ensuring protection of our lives, liberties, and free pursuits from gov’t coercion and tyranny, and
3) reestablishing state sovereignty and decentralized gov’t power by states refusing federal funding and accompanying federal regulation.
