That’s the point. Ordinary humans can supplicate the Divine. NO guarantees though.
Cynicism is good, only if you can survive it.
Most international staff are contractors. Only a few are permanent staff. In Afghanistan UNDP had about 3 permanent staff and maybe 30 to 50 international and several hundred Afghans. It’s all a big system with everything fine through projects.
The wants to be able to hire anyone so they pay European wages with European benefits. This worked to my advantage. I was paid very well. When I had to leave country after being in a terrorist attack. I received full pay for 3-month sick leave.
The UN agencies and USAID only do things with government approval. So maintaining communication is a priority.
I would say eliminate about 90% of it. There are some true American strategic global interest.
But most of it is just American politicians playing at being generous with the taxpayers’ money.

I believe in being practical and being honest.
I am sick and tired of diplomats using big words to do failed policy.
I want peace—and if that means bribing dictators count me in....

True. If the Euros are either unable or unwilling to help themselves there isn’t anything we can do or should do.
We’ve done enough. Europe is like the drunk who won’t sober up and foreign aid is just enabling the decline.
Time to move on. We’re not miracle workers.
